Yes, you don’t want to compromise the design, on a different vehicle years ago I ended up with some custom rear tie rod ends that did not have the threads rolled properly and they started to bend. Always best to use the correct part
2wd as opposed to 4wd? I would use the correct ones unless you can make these work. Good news is since the new ones are longer you will have more thread engagement with hopes of achieving the correct toe spec
If a diesel starts with help from starting fluid (be careful as not a good idea to using starter fluid!!!) the starting fluid increases the rpm and can help build the fuel pressures to start the engine. Always use freshly charged batteries when diagnosing an issue with diesel.
My L400 was
Caster 3-3.5* positive with adjustment for road crown
Camber we were shooting for .5* negative but settled with .5* positive given lift kit.
Toe is set slightly positive (toe in 1/16”)
Rear is similar less the caster.
