Help: L400 loses Power, Dies and Starts Back Up Again

Seems like an easy test would be to push down on the fuel filter primer and see if it's easy after it's been parked. On mine, it'll move maybe 1/8" once, then it's solid.

What is the 10-digit part number for a L400 fuel injection pump? Need to get mine rebuilt.

It'll be on the silver plate that mounted under the hood on the driver side fender by the fuse box. The same VIN number should be on your insurance card too!

Is it still possible to buy a new D4BF?

https://delicaforum.com/index.php?threads/the-last-d4bf-delica-engine-replacement-thread-5500-500-flat-rate-shipping.7466/ Not cheap, but brand new!

L400 Losing speed going uphills mechanic said it’s wide tyres

They are 265/70/15 alright. Interesting! I didn't think that was an option. I don't think it would be the tires. They are only 1" wider and less than 1" taller than the 235/75 that a lot of people run. Many people run a taller 30x9.5x15 as well. If Delicas were that susceptible to tire...

Is DelicaUSA a reliable source for suggesting alternative parts?

I'd be thrilled if that filter works, that's way cheaper than the ones I've been buying! The part number does align with what they have on their page. https://www.delicausa.com/fullwidth-page-3-2/ If you start your oil change and that filter does not work, don't sweat it. The filter change...

    Aftermarket Exhaust

Nomadic Van Life in idaho makes side exit exhaust systems for these in the US. But honestly any competent exhaust shop could fab up a side exit job for you fairly easily. There's not much in the way.

Braking action is less than stellar

Mine work really well! I'm not sure what Delica-specific tricks would help, but I'd pull the pads and check for glazing. If it's deep enough you'll usually see cracks, in which case having the rotors turned/resurfaced and throwing on fresh pads should fix it.

    L 400 maintenance costs

100pt inspection costs will be the same as an other vehicle. Same with replacement parts. Some parts are quite reasonable, and others are borderline ridiculous. I've run into the same things with most cars I've owned! https://ccautos.ca/delica/ has a great parts list you can view to get an...

    Any hope for this exterior?

If you want to make it look better, but not match the original color, you could just use rhino liner, line-x, raptor liner type stuff too. Way easier to do as DIY, but it'll change the look of the van considerably.

    Any hope for this exterior?

With the exception of the first pic, the rest of those a major jobs for DIY as the clear coat is peeling and can't be saved with buffing or chemicals. To look decent for DIY, you'll need to sand, paint, clear coat, wet sand, buff & polish. Not impossible, and YouTube will have plenty of advice...

    Refurbishing Bull Bar

That's what I did to mine, pull it off, sanded and spray painted. It's pretty straight forward to do and makes a nice difference in appearance.

97 Low Roof SWB Space Gear Roof Rack

The high roof is harder to find a rack for, so you'd likely be able to use one of these cheap gutter mount racks from amazon without issue...

    Regular Checklist for '97 L400?

As with most used cars, you likely want to get caught up on things yourself and resetting the baseline. Some folks call this "Stage Zero". In the case of the 2.8, this means checking glow plugs, checking the timing chain, replacing the air filter, replacing the fuel filter, etc. Once it's...

MPG on a Gas '98 L400 Long Wheel Base?

Not what you asked for, but adding the datapoint. My 2.8 turbo diesel LWB gets 22mpg on average.
