    Finally got my van!

Cool, I saw your name on the map a while back. I used to spend a lot of time up in Woodlawn. My grandfather managed a summer camp out there. It would be cool to have some kind of meetup that isn't just loud cars. Those can be fun at times, but getting run off by the cops is a hassle. We could...

Have you been to MightyRam50? They might know more about that version of the engine.

When it's not starting, is it turning over, or just not doing anything at all?

New Owner! 1989 Mitsubishi VAN... Keeping It In The Family!

Looks pretty awesome. Always glad to see people with the USDM vans going strong. Let us know if you do any engine work. I'm very interested in the differences between the US 4G64 that was in those compared to the JDM one I have.

Three (4G64) Engines and a Van - looking for options.

Don't tempt me. I actually went out and found a 2001 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport shitbox for next to nothing to keep me from tearing into my van since it is currently my main vehicle. I've had a lot of fun already getting that little wagon running and planning for silly mods. There is a lot of...

It would also be a great resource to document the various differences between the USDM and JDM engines.

That's the spirit! I'm definitely envious. If I had another 6 bolt wide block sitting around, I'd be learning my way to a 4G64T DOHC van without worrying about ruining my working engine.

That is a tough spot. When you say leaky cylinders, did they actually do a leak down test to see if it was the cylinders and not valve stem seals? If it is the cylinders, there are a few things it could be there, but if it's getting good compression while burning oil it could just be a bad oil...

Three (4G64) Engines and a Van - looking for options.

That or a 4WD 2.4 Mighty Max/Ram50 would probably be the easiest. With the Mighty Max you have to make sure you have the right year though. Starting in 1992 they used a wideblock with a 7 bolt crank, and ours uses a 6 bolt. This chart is a pretty good reference to get an overview of how many...

Three (4G64) Engines and a Van - looking for options.

How is the coolant plumbing and intake routed on your van? The Eclipse's transverse orientation makes putting it in a longitudinal vehicle a little annoying. You can see in your picture the coolant inlet/outlet are on what would be the Eclipse's left side, but on your van, they will be on the...

    Mitsubishi Problems

Also, how does the oil filter fit? I know the Mighty Max and USDM Van used the larger truck oil filter, and I wasn't sure if the L300 used the smaller car version due to clearance issues are something.

    Mitsubishi Problems

The 4G64 L300 had two different oil pans depending on year per EPC 1989-early 1992 used this one at Amayama Mid 1992-1994 used this one at Mitsubishi Parts Direct I can only find pictures for the second one, so I don't know what difference in shape there is. Both were the wideblock 4G64, so I'm...

    Turbo 4g64

I don't think anyone on here has done it, or I'd be bothering them a lot. I've been gathering information and parts for a while for when I finally get the nerve to try it myself.

Rockauto has one. You'll need a gasket, but those are cheap and available everywhere.

    4g63 engine swap to 64

I don't know the specifics of the Australian spec vans, but the main thing you'll be dealing with is making sure the transmission bellhousing is the same width. Mitsubishi used a wide and narrow version for the Sirius. Most of the older 4G64/4G63 RWD engines were wide, but it wouldn't hurt to...
