    L300 Shocks Options

Following up on the above, I have successfully installed the 24-022156 Bilsteins on the rear ($100 each, RockAuto). The following mods are required: 1) Drill out the upper eye of the shock to 16mm/5/8". This went quite easily on a drill press with a fresh bit; only removing 1/16" on the...

    L300 Shocks Options

I'm purchasing a pair of the Bilstein 24-022156 identified by Sputnik 4 years ago. The numbers look good (477/311 extended/compressed); I measured my stock van at 470 full droop and 395 sitting on the wheels. I guesstimate about 60 to the bump stop including some crush on the rubber. So my...

Thanks for posting. That’s the glory of the forum and I’ve gotten so much from others; glad to keep the karma going.

Remote locking mod for $30 and less than 2 hours effort

It’s been trouble free. Still works great like on day-one.

    Sliding door lock fix. L300

Hi Noah, That was a long time ago (the little boy in my profile photo is nearly my height now)! I absolutely don't recall and I'm on a different van now. But if it happens to one it will happen to many. Easy enough to try.

    Strange box with light

I had one (though a little more polished looking). It’s meant to let the engine/turbo run for a few minutes to cool down. When working properly, it shuts off after a few minutes. The button is an override to disable the function. Mine ran for 3-5 minutes after removing the ignition key. I...

Nasty-sounding squeal/screech on startup, completely goes away at 3K rpm and doesn't come back

As noted at the bottom of Growlerbear’s link, check the crank pulley for a delamination between the inner and outer rings. I had this failure and it sounded every bit like a squealing belt. It also diminished at higher revs. Pulley can be had for less than $100 on eBay.

    1988 Mitsubishi wagon/van

You might check in with these guys for a nice header (extractor) to replace your exhaust manifold. My buddy sourced one here for his 89 Montero and was very happy with the power increase...

    New Paint Scheme

I agree, it definitely recalls the Super Custom. I see lots of them on the road here in NZ. It's a great look. Period correct! I actually looked long and hard at the Super Custom before I bought my first Delica- I'm glad I didn't since I would be on another forum right now!

    New Paint Scheme

Don’t feel obliged to replicate the factory break-line. For my repaint, I tried to imagine how a factory paint job would look today. I mimicked the plastic cladding look of more current work vans by specifying semi gloss for the black, and had it creep up the taillights and front fascia...

    Repacking the Hubs

I recently had cause to set my bearing preload and took a couple photos to upload. This thread seems like a good place to archive them. As mentioned in the thread, you will need to have (and any wrench-twirling, Delica owner should certainly have): 1) a pin socket for the preload ring and 2)...

The dog goes berserk if he hears the Vamos start and he’s not in it. As shown in the photo, he’ll sit in it for hours, in the hope a ride will occur.

Do I need a special adapter to change radios

You can get the adaptor on Amazon too. Same as for a first gen Montero (like 1990). Just allows you to solder up on the bench and not have to cut the original harness.

    How to reglue door skins?

You might try a high performance subfloor adhesive. The better ones are formulated to harden as they cure and fill/support gaps. Most are thick enough out of the tube to work just fine on the vertical. I feel like the results, when you find the right one, would be very similar to factory...

    Wind noise

Thought I might leave a bread crumb here. I had a persistent buzzing noise that sounded all the world like a vibrating plastic panel or sheet metal fin, coming from behind the steering wheel. It was associated only to road speed and only apparent over 80kph. It took a while, but I finally...

    Front carpet replacement

If you cut a nice clean edge around your cool box, you can then take the carpet to an automotive upholstery shop and get them to overcast (overlock, serge) the raw edge. I haven’t seen a cool box in person… maybe you can loosen it enough to just tuck a raw edge underneath? That would be clean...
