Dennis!! How are you old friend?!

So happy you finally brought a LHD to the states!

Good luck with sale buddy!

I've purchased 4 JDM's from Delicausa and Dennis was always super helpful and straight up with me. I wouldn't hesitate for a moment buying from him.

Hello Dennis. Since you used to work at DelicaUSA, I was wondering if I could ask you a few things if you don't mind. Does DelicaUSA search for Delicas for anyone and do they charge for that service? If so, how does the process work? Thanks

Hello, I believe they offer this type of service. Delica USA would assist with locating the vehicle, import and title services. I recommend you contact them directly and they would be able explain the process.

Hello, did you end up contacting and/or working with DelicaUSA to find your Delica? If yes, any info, and/or experiences with them, that you might care to share here would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for some specifics with my desired Delica, and I figure an importer is going to be the best way to go for my search... and I would love to hear from anyone on this site/forum whom have experiences with importers and might care to share these. Peace

Hello and welcome to the Forum. If you want a Delica, then an importer is a good way to go because you avoid all the work and hassle of the importation process. Having said that, I will tell you 2 importers to avoid based on my own personal experience. Number 1 is DelicaUSA, and number 2 is Tokyo Motors DC in Boyds, Maryland. Let me start with DelicaUSA. They recently changed the name of the company. I suspect, and this is just my opinion, that they are trying to distance themselves from the bad reputation they have earned over time. You see, if you do some research here on the Forum, you will find threads where some member(s) have stated that DelicaUSA did not deliver what they promised to customers and their products were shoddy and were poor quality. My experience with them supports that. You see, back in Dec of 2022, I reached out to DelicaUSA and asked them if they could help me find a specific Delica I was looking to buy. A Michael Schmulevich replied to my email and told me that I would need to deposit $1000 and he would search for a vehicle for me. After waiting a few weeks he found something but the vehicle had rust on the outside. I made some inquiries about the vehicle but he never answered my questions to my satisfaction. Then he said that there were other vehicles coming in but I never heard anything more from him after that. This process took several weeks with nothing to show for it. Finally, I asked for my deposit back. Fortunately for me, he agreed to give back my deposit. Their website says that you will pay the deposit after they find you a vehicle, not before.

I went to an online auction called "CarsandBids.com" where they have had quite a few Delicas up for bid. Some of them are owned by private parties and some are being sold by dealers. That's where I got my 1988 Delica L300. I got it from a dealer named Tokyo Motors DC out of Boyds, MD. It is owned by a Mohamed Mashoor Sulaiman. He lied about the van. In the auction, he claimed that the middle seats swiveled. When I got the van I discovered that the middle seats did not swivel. He even had a picture of one of the seats facing backwards to make it look convincing. The only way he could have pulled that one off was to unbolt the seat and face it backwards. Also, the van didn't pass inspection at first. A wheel cylinder was leaking, 2 u-joints had to be replaced, a brake line had to be fabricated, and a headlamp had to be replaced. I had to have work done on it so it could pass inspection and be safe on the road. I won't bid on anything on carsandbids anymore either. They charge the buyer a percentage of the sale price. They're making money off the buyers. I definitely don't recommend buying a JDM vehicle from Tokyo Motors DC. If Mohamed Mashoor Sulaiman lies once, who knows what else he will lie about.

After all the money I spent on the van (I had to replace the alternator later on,) it is finally running great with no problems. The thing that got me interested in the van in the first place was that it only has 39,000 miles on it (64,000 kms.) With the exception of the interior, which needs detailing due to the musty smell and just being worn out, the van looks great. Heads turn wherever I go, and I get a lot of questions about it from people. Speaking of dealers, there is one dealer I will buy from, and that's where I'm going to get my next Delica from.......Nomadicvan.life. I want to get the 4th generation Delica L400 Spacegear. I want to have both Delicas but since I'm not rich I'm going to have to sell the L300. The thing about the L400 is that there's more interior space since the engine is in front under the hood as opposed to the L300 where the engine is sitting under the front seats. I have a wife and 2 kids so I will need to upgrade to the L400. Anyway, I almost bought a long wheelbase L400 from NomadicVan but I changed my mind when I saw the price. I didn't know much at the time so I let that one slip away. The thing about NomadicVan is that they do an extensive maintenance routine on all the vans they sell. That's why their vans are a bit on the pricey side, but what I have come to realize is that you're going to pay no matter what. I've heard at least one member of Delicaforum say how reputable NomadicVan is. I'd rather buy from them than from Tokyo Motors where all they do is change the oil and also, you don't really know what you're getting (besides being lied to.)

That's my experience as far as getting a Delica. I hope this helps you if you haven't already found a van.

I got my 1993 Starwagon Delica from Tokyo Motors DC on carsandbids.com and it's been great so far. No complaints here on either party (well, that percentage fee wasn't super awesome). YMMV.
