Black smoke on cold starts

I did the EGR delete and opened up the exhaust to 2.5". Before, I'd get white smoke during a cold crank. After start, the white smoke would go away after a few seconds. Now, I'm getting white smoke while cranking and black smoke after cold start. Black smoke goes away after a few seconds. Is that normal?

Thanks in advanced,

Black smoke (soot) is just un-burnt diesel fuel. Mine does the same thing. It most likely did it before and when you were driving, like when you have to get on the throttle after slowing down...it'll burp out some black smoke as the injection pump throws fuel at the engine. You're rollin' coal!

Black smoke is incomplete combustion. White smoke is raw fuel.
Black smoke can be due to overfueling (fuel buildup during crank), bad air/fuel mix (air filter), or injectors (coarse spray/flooding).

What you're describing sounds to me like it's just a slower start due to being cold...
