Changing fluorescent lights - Crystal Lite roof

Ok I’m stumped, how do I change these lights out? I’m looking to swap for some led tubes to reduce power consumption on my upcoming house battery. I poured over the manual and the reference section and can’t seem to find the trick. Unless I’m reading this correctly and I have to remove the entire headline... o_O I’ve tried prying around all the edges and I’m afraid to break the plastic....

I tried to find LED tubes, but were unsuccessful.
However, to get the tubes exposed...
  1. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, pry out the two front clips exposing two Phillips head screws
  2. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, pry the vent louvers out, to expose 2 Phillips head screws (per vent)
  3. Pull the brightness knob, straight down
  4. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, pry the light control panel down, to expose 2 Phillips head screws.
  5. Unscrew all the phillips head screws, and the panel will drop/fall down.

NOPE!
  • It's a T8 bulb and T10 connectors, so you'd need to replace/fix that...
  • AND, a T8 also had a different ballast level than T10, so it may not work if it fit...
  • BUT, it's also 24 inches (aka 609mm) long vs. 23¼ inches (aka 590mm) long, so it won't fit at all.
So does the dimming knob control the ballast, or does it just control the power to the ballast? I'm looking at just building my LED system and wondering how much I'll have to adapt to the existing wiring.

Looking at the pages for "Room Lamp", "Vehicles with Crystal Light roof" at least for the 1991 Electrical Diagram in the Resources section...

There's three wires that connect to the ballast/switch/rheostat/bulb unit (single part in top right corner of diagram)
  • RB - Red/Black - 12v Constant (power in)
  • GR - Green/Red - 12v Door trigger
  • B - Black - 12v ground
The diagram shows that 12v is sent from the mode-select (on/door/off) buttons to the ballast that then connects to the rheostat that controls whatever that does.

So, IN THEORY...
