Decend on Bend Oregon

Still debating it. I typically go to Texas that weekend every year, but with work timelines I just don't know that I can justify being gone at the end of the quarter. Local events though - much easier to head to.

It sounds a little like a west coast version of the netflix documentry "Vannin'" Vannin'
but with VW's. I want to call the orginizers I'd like to understand a little more about the different prices.
It sounds fun, I just don't think I can make it till Friday.

I'm like 80% ready to plonk the moola down. That weekend is my birthday and next to new suspension parts it about all I want. Alright, if I'm honest, new suspension parts and some new seat foam for the captain's chair.

I went last year with my wife and a couple friends and it was just ok. Mostly Vanagons. There were a couple Delicas and hiaces but I'm sure there will be more this year. It was super windy, dusty, cold and not the most organized (We ended up calling it Burning Van). I think they moved the date earlier this year because of last year and I'm sure the kinks are still being worked out. Not to say it wasn't fun, definitely give it a go I probably wouldn't go again. I did miss the 4wd run since it was a bit on the early side in the weekend and we hadn't gotten there yet so give yourself plenty of time to get there on time.

What's up @Kyre - I was there last year and am 90% sure I met every Deli owner, so hello again!

I agree with your Burning Van label. But I'd disagree and say it's actually pretty well organized - it's just not supposed to be as commercial as the typical "overland rally." There was space to park my van, a local brewery selling beer, and plenty of trails to hit.

It's definitely what you make it. I'm going for three days this year, and will probably venture out of camp more than I did last year.

Hey what’s up @rdelica yeah we were on top of the ridge last year. I know I met you too! Definitely not dogging the rally, it was really fun. I didn’t venture off and check as many trails as I should have and definitely should have gone for a couple days longer due to the distance I drove (from SF). Would be more fun to go with a crew.

I just learned about this last year after seeing IG posts about it. I don't think I can make it this year, but will be interested to see and hear how it goes.

Yeah, that's what I thought! I think it's a week earlier this year too to try to stave off some of the cold. It was fucking brutal one of those nights. I think it got down to like 12? Bringing my buddy heater this time.

If you make it up again, we'll all have to do a Delica trip on some of those roads to get out of camp and mess around.
