Insurance in NY

So I have had several people already recommend GEICO. When I got a quote at the beginning of the month on an L300 they gave me a number that I thought high for an old vehicle, but not outside what I was willing to spend...fast forward two weeks and I am about to close a deal on a 1989 L300. I call back to activate a policy, and the rate has gone up 30%, which takes that cost well beyond reasonableness in my opinion. The only change between the quote I got earlier in the month and the policy I had them write was the year of the vehicle. Needless to say I am not quite a Delica owner yet.

I also feel like the operator I was working with didn't know what they were doing. Are there any key words or tips to getting a specialist for the next time I call? Thanks.

I don't have experience with a Delica but I had several classic vehicles registered in NY. I saved a significant amount of money and got better insurance when I shifted to a company that specialized in older vehicles. I ended up going with Safeco through Liberty Mutual. Might want to check them out and see if they can do better.
