The new L300 versions are produced as a 2WD commercial version with L300 Delica 4WD passenger models usually converted to LHD from Japanese RHD imports from models produced back in the 90’s. But as the commercial version is still produced many new parts are commonly available although these maybe to different specifications (for example rear leaf springs for two wheel drive commercial versions are readily available with three leaf but 4WD four leaf springs are difficult to source as I am finding out now).
For touring around the Philippines take into consideration local conditions including narrow roads with lower quality surface in many areas with low speed (30-80 Km/h) in almost the entire country with 100 Km possible only on the good surface multi lane expressways along with affordable accommodation almost everywhere so need to sleep in the van is minimal plus absence of mandatory annual vehicle tests has resulted in lack of regular maintenance on older vehicles.
We have spent the cost of our 93 Delica L300 again on servicing and replacing parts ignored over the years (we spent 200,000 PHP - 3,550 USD - on purchasing the vehicle which was in average condition plus at least another 200 K PHP on essential repairs and maintenance including steering, suspension, engine, AC system conversion etc).
I had to share the workshop manuals with the mechanic as whilst they easily understood the running gear, the electrical wiring and interior disassembly is not as similar to new models. There are some great L300 Delicas here they are just hard to find but if you are coming over let me know.
Recently a new L300 camper was advertised locally for over 1.5 million PHP (around 30K USD) but they are rare here. New vehicles can be expensive here due to very high import taxes.
We are building our Delica to tour the Philippines whilst remote working so welcome any questions.
