    Flywheel weight 4D56

Hello community, today I have a very special question. Maybe I can find an answer here. As you might know, my other ride is a Mitsubishi L200 truck with basically the same 4d56 Diesel engine as in the Deli. It puts out more power and torque thanks to a bigger turbocharger and an electronically...

    4D56 VGT Turbo

Oh, that isn't exactly what I wanted to point out. I wanted to report from the original Mitsubishi VNT-setup which I consider a bit wobbly. Its mechanism tends to stick sooner or later. A slightly bigger unit (as the SAITO thing) might be able to make more oomph at higher revolutions (I reckon...

Vast quantities of blue-gray smoke on startup and uphill in lower gear

Looks and sounds like ours before I advanced the IP timing. I sometimes suspect that at one point in the 90ies they just retarded the timing a bit just in order to meet NOx-regulations the easiest way. Everything becomes better with a little advance: instant fume- and cough-free starts even...

    4D56 VGT Turbo

That is an interesting option, already because I always hear there was no possibility to control a VNT accurately enough by boost only … even though at least IVECO had a pure pneumatic/mechanical solution as far as I am informed. The VNT on the 4d56 in our L200 is vacuum-solenoid-controlled and...

4d56, could using 4m40 injectors while adjusting timing, improve efficiency?

Means I could tune an engine for more oomph by simply decreasing the pressure and adapting the timing (while sacrificing only a little bit of exhaust gas quality)? (-; Greetings from Munich!

Woohoo! All fingers crossed, wishing your Deli will be as reliable as ours ...

    4x4 systems

Steven, sorry that I obviously didn't make clear enough that I was not talking about the L300. I had already personal contact to all the very private parts of its tranny. Of course, there is neither a diff nor a viscous coupling (-; and I also know that in the history of the L300 4WD there has...

    4x4 systems

Hi, Steven, as far as I know about Mitsubishis trannies there is a lockable center diff with an additional viscous coupling acting as a differential brake as long as the diff is not locked. This might also hold for the L400, of which I do not know a lot. At least I had this transfer case on a...

    Cold air intake

Oh - sorry - wrong department! I have been talking of the L300!

    Cold air intake

Yes! Definitely! Some Russian enthusiasts have developed a nearly invisible and cheap solution that I really adore: They are routing the air through the b-pillar next to the air-filter-compartment! You will have to close it (airtight) at its bottom, then mount an adapter for a hose (to the air...

    L300 power

Hi, Keanu! Certainly you can get this engine more oomph. Nevertheless, it will never enable the L300 to keep up at least with the part of the traffic you are obviously looking at (-; Put into your mind that an L300 is gathering momentum rather than accelerating and will always do no matter how...

Vast quantities of blue-gray smoke on startup and uphill in lower gear

Hi enthusiasts, btw. I can tell what happened after the spring in one of the injectors of our 4dbh Hyundai engine broke: It began to spew black smoke. My concern in this case has been twofold: First, can a certain amount of unburnt fuel wash away the oil film between cylinder and piston...

    My other ride is a...

Among our rides there is a rare german gem, a 2005 model MZ 125 RT which grants an impressive 110 kph thanks to 11 kW out of her 125cc four-valve DOHC one-pot. Displacement and output are restricted for drivers between 16 and 18 or certain classes of driving licenses. I bought it mainly for my...

Is an Engine Swap for a 96 Delica Starwagon from an L300 possible?

First time for me to hear that. I'm really puzzled because I am interested in those engines since 1999, have had four of them myself (head gasket change included) and follow several forums that are dedicated to cars with the 4d56 on a regular basis. Again: I have never heard of this problem and...

Vast quantities of blue-gray smoke on startup and uphill in lower gear

Hi, DeliKit, after a bit of research, I have to admit that I haven't been well enough informed about the quality issues of these engines. Among the known problems, there is one that could fit to the symptoms you describe. It's horrible, however, because then we are talking of a cracked piston...

    You are welcome! I still can't believe it is something serious … or at least I refuse to … (-;

Vast quantities of blue-gray smoke on startup and uphill in lower gear

No. 5 is the filter, no. 1 (upper) is the hose you want to replace. (No. 6 ist the pump plunger, which I called “black hat”). After replacing the hose you can fill the new line by depressing the plunger several times until it gets harder. You will see the fuel filling the hose then.

Vast quantities of blue-gray smoke on startup and uphill in lower gear

Hi, you do not need to gaze on diagrams or photographs — it is the fuel line between the fuel filter, (it is the upright mounted cylindrical item with a black hat and two hoses that normally sits high at the rear wall of the engine compartment on the l/h side), and the injection pump. You can...

Vast quantities of blue-gray smoke on startup and uphill in lower gear

Oh, I slept over it and have got another guess now! Once, one of the springs that put load on the needle broke inside one of the injectors. With a heavy foot on the accelerator, the engine blew out grayish smoke then. However, the surplus amount of fuel raised visibly the consumption (which...
