    Venting the Cabin of Moisture

On my previous van, I fitted 12V computer fans into the tailgate trim and the air vented through the drain holes in the bottom of the tailgate. I need to do the same on the current van to help remove heat from the fridge and (hopefully) reduce some of the dust that finds its way into the...

    Massive Snap Noise!

It looks like your rear sway bar has snapped from what I see in the photo. You should be ok to remove both parts and drive carefully until you get a replacement. I know this is an L400, but the Australian L300's for example were not fitted with them from the factory, but the imported L300...

Can 4D56TD cylinders be honed in situ?

Are you sure its the head gasket that failed? I had similar symptoms with mine that were attributed to cylinder head corrosion. If you are going to take the head off, it would be worth checking out, as well as checking the flatness of the mating surface or if its been overplaned by the recon people.

D4BF Engine Purchase : Possible SCAM Hyundai Power Plaza Co

it's many years since I had one of their engines fitted to my old L300, but at the time, the cost was significantly cheaper than getting the original motor stripped down and rebuilt by a mechanic/engineering workshop. When I swapped out the 4D56 in my current van for a D4BF, the garage were also...

Noob Alert: What the Heck is Overdrive?

You can think of overdrive as an extra high gear for cruising along on fast roads to keep your engine speed lower than it would be otherwise and provide greater fuel efficiency (albeit with lower acceleration). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overdrive_(mechanics)

    Any hope for this exterior?

Mitsubishi clear coat seems to go that way after a few years, as @JAGI410 says above its not an easy remedy. The roof on my van has almost completely shed its clear coat. The base colour seems to have held, and a strip and respray is on the cards when I have time to take it off the road long...

    Service manual for L300 1980-1985

I used the Gregorys L300 Manual (2WD) and a Haynes Pajero Manual for the 4WD bits for my mid '86 L300 SE. The Gregorys L300 still seems available from Haynes: https://haynes.com/en-au/mitsubishi/express-l300/1980-1985 as is the Pajero in paper or online form...

Use of CB/PMR radios. Any thoughts?

Repeater coverage is patchy, but when its available its reasonably well monitored. The PLB is the real back stop for serious emergencies. Mine is GPS enabled so the fix time is around 5 minutes (somewhat more for somebody to actually get to you :) ). Without GPS, it can take half an hour or more...

Use of CB/PMR radios. Any thoughts?

I have an 80 channel UHF CB fitted. I mostly use it for vehicle to vehicle comms when traveling in a group with my kids. There are some repeaters in outback areas, used by cattle stations mostly, so there is always potential for emergency purposes in these regions. We have occasionally had a Sat...

    A/C Pulley replacement?

Pulley and magnetic clutch complete assemblies can be found on AliExpress and ebay if that's any help. My mag clutch fell apart and I looked for a replacement in those places. In the end, I got a complete compressor off Amazon like the one offered by Good Karma (they may sell the clutch assembly...

    Should I overhaul my interior?

Delica Garage have some L400 interior bits usually https://delicagarage.com/ as do https://www.delicapartsbrisbane.com.au/ Might be worth dropping a message to each of them with what you need to see if they have things not listed on their websites. Using Starwagon WA or GL in your search might...

    Sliding Door Handle Removal

There should have been a screw holding the handle onto the spigot of the door mechanism. The spigot is splined and the plastic handle can bind to it over time. I've found that trim panel pliers can help push the handle off (see picture). A bit of gentle heating of the handlewith a hair drier can...

    Should I overhaul my interior?

If you go to https://mitsubishi.epc-data.com/ and enter your VIN you'll be able to get part numbers and see what's available from Amayama, PartSouq and other places. if you don't find new items or the price is not right, try the wreckers/ You'll often find there are common parts with the 2WD...

Vast quantities of blue-gray smoke on startup and uphill in lower gear

Glad that the van is back with you and ready to go new places! I bought my first L300 (a 1986 SE 4x4) back in 1995 and still love driving them. My first van and its new owner came back to visit recently to collect the rear seats and some spares I'd put aside. He is totally smitten with driving...

Need to re-adhere delaminating door trim - specific products / techniques?

This is a common problem I believe. The polyurethane backing breaks down over time (happens with the horn insulating mask too) and the cover peels away from the armature. The last time i did mine, I used a hairdrier to bend the cover back into shape, After it cooled I gently pulled the cover...

D4BF Engine Purchase : Possible SCAM Hyundai Power Plaza Co

Sounds like you'd be best to avoid HPP Co and spend your money on a reconditioned/re-manufactured engine locally. I replaced the 4G63 motor in my previous L300 SE with a re-manufactured 'long' engine from HM Gem and was happy with the product and the price. Mine was done on an exchange basis...

    alignment maxed out?

Thanks, that's a pity. I have a feeling that the bushes are solid rubber and the poured urethane wouldn't be successful. The eventual solution looks like it might be to replace the whole spring with an after market item. I looked at a set of Pajero springs and bushes from Drivetech, but they...

    alignment maxed out?

Did you ever figure out a Febest part number for the eye bushings you mentioned in the referenced post? I can see some cracks in the rubber flanges on mine that indicate there will be a time when its going to be a problem. I had the springs reset about 5 years ago by a suspension specialist...

D4BF cross reference to Pajero cooling parts

Things seem to be good now thanks, so I'll see how it goes. Yes, a semi-permanent gasket paste had crossed my mind as a next step. There is a similar Permatex product to Hylomar here that I carry with me with my tools and spares. Hylomar used to be my go to product for crankcase jointing on...

D4BF cross reference to Pajero cooling parts

Thanks for all the replies. What started this was that I had a significant coolant leak happening around the thermostat housing which seemed to be coming from the joint. Prior to fitting a T3 radiator over a year ago, I had changed the thermostat for a local aftermarket one that was 'physically...
