8020 Rock and Roll bed?

Has anyone made a rock and roll bed from 8020 aluminum? I searched on here but couldn't find what I was looking for (I could have searched poorly). I have a 1996 L400 LWB and I know the approximate measurements but am not sure about the undercarriage area that supports the bed.

@Hogan I didn't use 8020, but my version might be helpful to look at especially the mounting to the van floor. I think that's what you were asking about. I went straight into where the back seats bolt to the wheel wells. I've seen someone use riser blocks to get more storage, but I prioritized headroom especially because I use it as an actual bench. I do have three total single leg supports for the middle area, and can send additional photos if you want. You may not need that if you build a frame out of 8020 though.

I remember looking through your 26 Jul 2020 post while I was working on getting a van imported through Amazing Auto Imports. I also have the V6 LWB and being over 6'1", room to sit up is really important to me. I love your set-up, it looks fantastic. The reason I'm looking at 8020 is because I plan on setting up pull-out storage under the bed (accessible through the back), and also to keep down weight. I've watched a lot of YouTube videos on anchoring the bed down to the wheel well using the same hole from the rear seats.

After looking at yours, I may rethink the direction I go. I have a nice sketch with measurements of the actual bed with headboard, but I'm struggling to figure out a cradle or undercarriage that goes underneath that will support the slides and bed area.

On a side note, seeing all the PNW folks makes me home sick. I live on the East Coast now (post-military), but grew up in southern Oregon and have family in northern Oregon and in Washinton.

Hi mate

Hopefully you're still on the forums !

I love what you've done here. I'm keeping my rear swivel chairs in my L400, and it's hard to find other bed ideas that involve keeping those chairs.

I reckon I'm going to go with your unistrut option as well - it's bloody smart!

I'm just wondering if you've got the wooden pieces on rollers, or they just slide along the unistrut? And if you have a method to lock this in place when it's upright in couch position?

Cheers
