There is a Google Map of Delicas in North America and Known Delica Mechanics, we invite you to add your Delica to the list.
  1. Create/Login to your DelicaForum.com account.
  2. Navigate to the "Forums" -> "Forum-Related and Other Discussions" -> "Delica Map" page.
  3. Click on the button "Add your Delica" just below the map. To add a Mechanic, click the "Add a Mechanic" button.
  4. Click the desired location for your Delica/Mechanic to create a request to be added to the map. Use the +/- buttons to change the zoom level, use click and drag to move the map.
  5. In the first text box, add a name for your Delica, and in the second textbox include any additional information about yourself and your van. For Mechanics, enter the Name, address, phone number, email, website, and any details you want to share about them.
  6. Click Submit and your request will be added to the queue.
  7. Relatively quickly, one of the map editors will add your Delica/Mechanic to the map.
Note: This is for Delica owners, if you are looking at a Delica, thinking about getting one, etc... There is no need to add to the list until you get your new toy!

Updated for the new instructions!

Cool! :)

Where can I find the Edit button in step 2, though? I'm signed in but don't see one.

This is pretty cool. Has it been populated with the forum members? I think I am already on here as POINT 35. haha.

We had a similar thing many years in the BMW motorcycle forum. Not even a map; in those days just a list. It included notes on what members could offer to each other if in the area and in need of assistance. Thing like tools, garage space, overnight stay, or even just interest in meeting for a beer.

The map has been locked to allow a new method for updating. Instead of letting anyone on the internet be able to add/remove/change/delete the map items. The moderators/admins of DelicaForum and the owner of the map got together and made...
The Delica Map which is available in the Forum-Related and Other Discussions section of this Forum.

Here's the instructions to add yourself or a Mechanic to the map...

Simple, isn't it. :D

What location did you add the point to? I can update it with your information.

Does the forum have an “easy access” tab to the map in the menu?

If you click on "Home" or "Forums" on top you'll see "The Delica Map" under "Forum Related and other Discussions".

The BMW support forum was super useful during some of my trips, and got to meet up with a buncha cool people, even got hosted or hosted a few myself that were traveling around, so cool! Do we have something similar for Delica owners, or is this map the closest thing we have?

We've been encouraging members to sign up on the map for that very same reason. So members can find each other/mechanics, etc.
What tools did the BMW support forum have?

First thing I did when I signed up on this site, that map is very useful!

Basically, you could tell where members were located and what kind of "services / assistance" they were able to offer i.e. tools, hoist, space in their backyard to set up a tent, mechanical knowledge etc. Super useful when traveling, either for assistance or simply to meet up fellow riders. Met some great people this way, I stayed with or hosted total strangers that then turned out to be good friends!

Now, I don't remember if this was associated with that forum or if it was an international BMW club of some kind but I also had a pocket size book that basically did the same thing, and that I could simply carry around in my jacket without the need to access the internet. It had a list of contacts in North America and Europe for each country, and besides each contact there was a list of letters, with each letter meaning something (for example A for mechanical help, B for tent space in backyard, C for tools available etc.). This would also be something great to have, Delica members could put their name down and we could just keep this little book in the glovebox in case of need, or simply to meet up with locals and go for a drive together.

If there is a "Well Known Member" or higher, interested in helping out keeping the map updated. Please reach out to me via Direct Message. I have been less active on the forum recently, due to work/life balance issues and want to make sure that the updates don't take so long. :(

What steps are done when someone clicks to add a Delica?
  1. There's an update to a Google Sheet (spreadsheet) and you'd get an email letting you know.
  2. Then you just would need to cut&paste the coordinates in the spreadsheet in the search on the map,
  3. click add to map
  4. cut & paste the member name in one field
  5. cut & paste the Delica Name and Description in the other field
  6. Lastly, mark on the Spreadsheet that it's been Done.
So, if you are interested, DM me.
