Bay area roll call!

Anyone else in the bay area? If so, I'd love to hear about your van! Also, any interest in a low-key meetup sometime early next year? I am a newish owner of a white diesel L400 super exceed and I am obsessed, so it would be fun to geek out in person.

Lots of us in the Bay Area, but most driving L300 models. I'm in the East Bay, Walnut Creek. What is the story w/your rig import yourself, from a dealer or PO? What was your experience with DMV if not already registered in the state? What are the mods?

Cool! I was seriously torn for months about whether to get an L300 or L400...I would probably get one of each if I had space to park them :p

I got lucky and bought it from another member of this forum, already registered in CA. It's been in the US for many years...no idea how someone pulled that off given the 25 year rule. It has a CA emissions sticker under the hood, but I see no evidence that it went through the official CARB compliance process.

It came with a removable full bedframe with storage drawers. Still trying to decide if I want to camperize it more permanently. One of the funnier mods is that since it's a Series 2 it isn't supposed to have a bullbar, but some past owner fabbed a bracket and welded one on. The bull bar says "Chamonix" but the van is a super exceed, but so far I've been the only one neurotic enough to notice. I just ordered a Coastal Offroad bumper kit though, so will be replacing the whole thing soon!!

I've done a ton of work on it, but so far mostly maintenance rather than fun mods - replacing suspension parts, recharging A/C, and an endless parade of fixing minor annoyances. We installed a rear ladder and a boost/EGT/coolant temp gauge, and rewired the Crystal Light shades to work without the key in the ignition. We also modded the spare tire cage to fit a 31" tire, although it's still a pain in the ass and long-term I want a better solution. My next priorities are a house power system, an awning, a solution for carrying more gear (jerry cans etc) externally, sound insulating the cab, retrofitting an OEM gauge pod, better lighting in the back...plus like 30 other things lol.

So far I've taken it down hwy 1 to Monterey, and driven the Mojave Road in socal. Probably gonna take it to Baja or Utah or Death Valley over Christmas!

There is a Morning Motors (think Cars & Coffee) in Santa Cruz on March 27th. There are a number of Bay Area folks L300's & L400's. Would be cool to show up in mass.

I'm curious how you rewired the Crystal Light shades to work without the key in the ignition. Was thinking about this, as well as doing the same for the front windows.

Just installed a new set of wheels and rims and to our surprise they fit (with some minor trimming) without a lift.

Rims: 16 x 8, offset is - 22mm (stock is -33), bolt pattern 6x5.5, Centerbore 110mm
Tires 265/70/16 30.6” diameter

Looks badass! Is it automatic or manual? Also lets get together and get some pictures by the bridge.

Here's my new to Space Gear S2. Planning on some wheels and basic maintenance. Currently in the process of registration.

Love that Chamonix post face lift L400 livery. Just picked up an L400 pre face lift Chamonix. Can’t beat the comfort of an L4. Welcome to the club.
