Catalytic converter stolen. Need to find replacement.

Had my catalytic converter stolen. Middle section of the exhaust system angle ground off (see photos). Insurance company have recommended scrapping the vehicle and settling, but It's a perfectly working 2005 v6 petrol Delica so I am very reluctant to do this. They have offered me the option of finding my own garage and getting a quote which they would need to approve. So My question to the forum is do I need an exact match or are there catalytic converters for other vehicles such as the Pajero that will fit? Alternatively, is there a place i can source an original part in the UK. I am also not sure if the part they cut off is just the middle section or they've cut off part of the front and back section. I hope someone can see from the photos and advise me. Thanks.

You can probably get a new one from Japan (~ $750 USD)... another option is a used one from scrap yard/importer.

They want to scrap the entire vehicle over a catalytic converter? [Forehead smack emoji]

@stevenlee, do you have any replacements available?

Won't any V6 3.0 Litre catalytic converter do? If i take one from another vehicle with the same engine it should surely do the same job no? It might need some welding though. Any thoughts on suitable parts from other vehicles?

Talk to exhaust shop and check fit with universal catalyst or compare other model v6 Mitsubishi 3.0 and weld in

California requires either OEM cats or ARB approvedaftermarket replacements. Contact local muffler shop. Kevin

In the US there are a few manufacturers that sell cheap but workable CATs. I'm sure the same is true for London. There are several universal CATs that can be purchased for 100-200, (as long as you don't line in California).
Here is an example of a non-California CAT for a 3.0 gas Mitsubishi (same motor I believe you have).

Just to be transparent, in California it is CARB (California Air Resouce Board), ARB makes the air-locker in rear of my L300. :)

Thanks for the replies. In the end i got the exhaust shop to chop up a cat from a 3.5L shogun and weld it back in place with extra pipes and flanges. So original part wasn't necessary.

As someone in the only other CARB-compliant state (Colorado), it sucks since cats here are wildly expensive and are constantly getting stolen. But it could always be worse, we had someone weld a cat INTO an L300 diesel, then sell it to someone trying to register it in Colorado and since we're carb-compliant state nobody would remove it because they didn't want to get shut down even though they never came with them, to begin with. It was also failing emissions because it was rolling coal and running like shit from all the unburnt fuel in the plugged-up converter, which wasn't allowed to be removed from the car so it would pass, which was causing it to fail, which wasn't allowed to be removed so it could pass... *slaps forehead*

The situation solved itself when someone cut it out and welded a new pipe in overnight... really weird.
