Delica L400 - Largest Tires and Rims without Lifting

Bought a 1994 L400 in early April. Love it. Since these are pretty new to the scene in the US, I thought I would post a few things I have found out as I have worked through a few kinks on my van. First up - wheels and tires. I really did not want to run OEM wheels on my Delica and unfortunately my Delica came with an incorrect wheel size (15x8 with a -19 offset) and I could not pass inspection without adding fender flares (which I do not want to add).

So, bottom line:
- largest tires you can run without lifting the L400 - 30x9.5x15
- Wheels need to be 15x7, 0 offset, 4 backspace, 6x5.5 bolt pattern, 108.71 bore (essentially a Toyota Tacoma or 4runner spec from the 90's)

I found some great steel wheel choices from US Wheel - https://www.uswheel.com

Have fun.

Thanks for posting. I've been looking for wheels... Just picked up an L400 in the states. I was hoping for an aluminum wheel but I might have to settle for steel. Thanks again!

Edit: Looks like you ditched the front mud flaps... Were they rubbing?

Thanks

Ok, I just took my front and rear wheels off and measured the hubs. The fronts are difficult to measure because of the length of the hubs , my calipers won’t go around it. The backs actually measure 107.95, so I believe wheels with a hub dia of 108.00 will work. I think all of the info out there that says 108.71 is based on steelies which do not have precision bores, stamped. The extra clearance is for the inaccuracy of that process. At least I think.

I looked forever for aluminum wheels. Actually bout black Ultra Motorsports Type 164 Wheels which are totally awesome (and aluminum), but the -19 offset made the wheels really stick out and I was not crazy about the look nor could I pass inspection. Steelies are probably the only choice for our vans. I bought the van from DelicaUSA and they cut the mud flaps off - they said they would not work with the bigger wheels. I think they were right, but a little bummed to lose those.

Big fan of Rhino Racks!! Great system. It well know. In the states for Delicas, but found some help in BC and Aussie Land to figure out the parts and pieces needed.

I am finding some selections of -6 offset which is only 1/4”. Also there are alloy wheels for trailers which almost always is a zero offset

Hi guys I’m after some advice. I have just purchased a 94 Delica L400 which has a 2” lift and some hefty wheel arch flares and I am wondering if anyone would know what the biggest size Tires and rims I could get on something like this? I’m after MT. I’ve attached a photo for reference.

What you have looks to be as big as you can go....think about it: when the suspension travels, the wheel has to go somewhere.

Also, the general rule of thumb for off-roading is to keep your rims / 2 of your tire size for airing down. So bear that in mind when selecting rims.

I have 33s on 15s, but I have a body lift.

did you ever test this out? Any luck putting 108 bore wheels on there?

Ordered these wheels with some 30x9.5x15 all terrain tires. Couldn't find any with a 0 offset so got the -6 and will make minor adjustments if need be. Thanks for the post!

Happy to report that these fit like a charm after some relatively minor trimming on both the front and back sides of the front wheel well. No changes needed on the back wheels. Was even able to keep the front mud flaps by trimming the inside section of the flaps.

Hey lads
my l400 came with aluminium rims, the only thing is I'm wanting to decrease my offset (to better fit in ruts) Other than increased weight and more $$$ is there a downside to switching to steelies?
