Did I receive the wrong tie rods?

I finally got around to replacing my inner and outer tie rods and they are about an inch longer than my old ones. I looked it up and it said this part was interchangable with the Mitsubishi part number. P/N TRW JAR390 for a '92 L300. Any ideas? Do I need to attempt to send these back? Although I'm passed 30 days so I doubt I'll get my money back.

2wd as opposed to 4wd? I would use the correct ones unless you can make these work. Good news is since the new ones are longer you will have more thread engagement with hopes of achieving the correct toe spec

It's been reported that the JAR390 is about 1" too long. Cutting off the excess shouldn't be too bad, but IDK if there are enough threads there... It looks like the end was threaded pretty far onto the original.

I think the other difference is the original MB part# vs the replaced with MR part#.

Yeah that's what I'm seeing. About 1" too long and doesn't look too be threaded far enough. I guess I'll contact rock auto and reorder.

Any chance you have a lead on a part that will fit with a quick delivery?

There was a thread on here somewhere... can't seem to find it. I'm pretty sure I bought a set of the ones that were verified to fit/work. But I'm away for a bit right now.

Any chance you could just get the threads cut farther along? A machine shop should have the die for threading it.

I ended up ordering a new set from Spareto as they were the cheapest and surprisingly fastest option. Still have to wait 3 weeks to get them, but everything stateside would have been twice as much and likely taken almost as long.

I think you could probably cut the threads, but I don't think the rod end would go any further down without shortening the inner tie rod itself. You could get into trouble with compromising the design at some point. $60 for a new pair so and at worst I lost $50 on this set that doesn't fdit if I can't sell em.

Yes, you don’t want to compromise the design, on a different vehicle years ago I ended up with some custom rear tie rod ends that did not have the threads rolled properly and they started to bend. Always best to use the correct part
