Headlights + Taillights intermittently turning off

As of a week ago, my lights will intermittently turn off / on when going over bumps, or when tapping/jiggling the arm with the knob coming out of the steering wheel that controls the lights. Has anyone run into this before, and have any pointers on where to start diagnosing this?

Given your description of problem, I would think that the switch is experiencing a loose connection. Remove the shroud held on by Phillips screws on bottom and see if the connection is loose. May need to source a replacement switch

Thanks for the tip on that post. I went disassembled everything and mine looked much cleaner that that person's

I did clean everything up and re-applied new dielectric grease. This was the second time disassembling the switch, and immediately after each time, everything worked well for ~24 hours, and then it came back increasingly after that, until the lights will barely stay on.
That kind of sounds like something is fatigued... like a spring/tension contact wearing out/weakening, or threads holding the housing together stripping/slipping.

You can try stretching the contact springs , I had the same problem and ended up going with a LHD set up due to not liking trying to get used to a RHD set up.

Interesting. Can you describe the process to get a LHD set up? Are you talking about just replacing the wiper and turn signal stalks, or is there significantly more involved?

It’s pretty basic conversion. Bolts right up, you do have to cut for clearance for high beam to engage if I remember right. I can try to take photos later for you on the trimming on the column covers I did.

You could rebuild yours with a little work and replace the light switch on yours . As much as some of these delica guys insist that parts are specific to Delicas only, they are not. Mitsubishi used alot of the parts on many other production vehicles. In your case the difference is the wiper side on some of these other vehicles that they dont have the wiper delay option as do the delicas Shop around and you may find it even cheaper. By now Im sure you know that unit inside and out .. Good luck , hope ive been some help..

Has anyone tried this to see if it works? the stalk itself on mine is broken so I am thinking of buying an entire new assy. Wonder if this would work as it is significantly cheaper than the Delica specific options.
