New Member, New Delica

Kellyn invited me to join the US Delica forum, so here I am.

(Copied and pasted from the Delica.ca forums)

Well I needed something that can haul a bunch of crap, be able to go anywhere whilst doing it, sleep in it if I have to, and get decent gas mileage. I remembered these "little" vans from when I spent some time overseas while in the Corps.

I knew about the 25 year import rule, so I started looking. Found some folks in Philly who specialize in importing Delica's. They find clean low mileage (for Delica's) examples, go through them, replace anything that is broken, and slap some fresh rubber on them. I thought that was a much better bet than crossing my fingers and hoping the buyer in Japan didn't screw me.

So after some phone calls, enlisting a faithful friends help as back up and driving relief , a few plane tickets, a few hours of sleep in a hotel, a trip to the garage they are sold out of, lots of coffee and beef jerky, 19.5 hours and a little under a thousand mile road trip...

Here she is..

As you can see I have filled the void for the front plate bracket :-D, charged the AC with some RedTek ,replaced the steering wheel with an aftermarket one, had it professionally detailed (carpets shampooed, paint massaged, and the lot) and am currently getting 20MPG on my daily commute.

EGR Delete is in transit, Boost and EGT gauge are here, just waiting on the delete kit to install, new Alpine head unit is in and the rear speakers have been upgraded to 61/2's.

I love driving this contraption. I look forward to testing its 4X4 capability, and taking it on my first prospecting trip with it.
I have only been stopped or waved at this much whilst driving a vehicle when I owned my Mk2 Jetta, but this blows it away. Almost anytime I park it, people are asking me about it.

Look forward to contributing and seeing all of you all's sweet ass Delica's.

sweet van dude! I'm still trying to get my Deli to 20 mpg....I think exhaust and injector rebuild will get me there.

Thanks for the welcome! The delete kit is in, so this weekend that is happening, as well as the install of the EGT and Boost gauges. I will do my best to remember to take some pics of the install process. The EGR delete is pretty well covered, but I will post some pics of just a normal gauge install. Kellyn's electrowhizzbang gauge install is going to be a bit of a template.

One question I have is about the EGR delete, does there need to be a gasket or do I just bolt the blanking plates straight on?

Bonus pic!

Aftermarket Steering wheel installed.

EGR Delete installed!

Boost and Pyrometer gauges installed!

YouTube video of gauges working (sorry for potato quality) linked below!

Awesome man, that was a nice install location. The steering wheel looks great too. When are are gonna see 40 psi on that gauge?!

Haha when I have the money to replace the engine?

I was wondering just how much boost these things can take. Hunting around the internets I saw that they make higher level boost wastegate actuators, has anyone here installed one of these or do people just put in MBC's?

Let me track you down the phenomenal turbo article growlerbeanz posted on delica.ca complete with flow maps. It lead me to have my turbo retrofitted to a 13g. Turning up the boost on the stocker sends it way out of its comfort range based on his research.
