New member trying to decide if a Delica is a good idea for us.

I'm shooting for a sort of "trifecta" of wants in my next vehicle

Had the exact same trifecta - also wanted something small enough to drive comfortably and park in a big city. Delica checks all the boxes for me. In my opinion, it's the absolute perfect size (I haven't lived long term in mine yet, this opinion might change). I am designing my camper for 2, and the plans are going really well (as long as we keep possessions to the essential).

There are definitely a couple things that make it not the most practical option, mostly because they are unique and repair knowledge is harder to come by than a Ford, but the thing that made me pull the trigger on it was that its fun. I normally dislike driving, but it's so exciting to drive this thing around, it makes running errands more pleasant and long adventures that much greater. And you get so many compliments!

The most important thing to me was to truly enjoy using my vehicle, and for me, the Delica goes above and beyond in doing so.

Agreed, it does seem be about the exact size we would want. It's just my wife and I so we're only two as well. I remember seeing a video somewhere of a couple who had spent something like a year living theirs without too much complaint.

Do you have a build thread here/elsewhere? Would love to follow along and check it out.

an AWD astro/safari is always an option. Or look for used/auction econolines that were pge/govenrment/etc vans. They are often 4x4

I've started looking at the astro/safari. I just wonder in terms of reliability if they'd be an improvement over the Delica? Usually lots of miles on the ones I've found. Much easier to get parts for I imagine.

I've been thinking that if I'm willing to break the "trifecta" and give up on having 4x4 or AWD, the nv200 could be a killer little camper. Really not certain I'd be willing to do so though. Lots of good BLM camping seems to be "out there" on barely maintained tracks. It's part of the fun I think sometimes too. But I dunno, 25mpg sounds nice lol.

And I still haven't parted entirely with the delica daydream lol.

I don't have a build thread yet but Ill make one soon

Just got done with another 4 days in the RTT. It's good, but just... dang, would be so nice to just close the blinds and call it done lol.

My mind keeps circling back to the Delica.
