Northern Cal Mechanic

I am looking for a mechanic for my 94 L300 Diesel anywhere from Carson City, NV to the Bay Area. The alternator pivot bolt sheared off or came loose splitting the lip of the guide hole on the oil pump, so it would probably need to be drilled/welded/retapped or a helicoil installed on the block portion of the job as well as the oil pump being replaced since the new bolt won't have a completely flush surface to mate with, or something welded on the pump face. To clarify, I cannot tell if the pivot bolt sheared off or not, if it did, it is really clean. It looks more like the wrong bolt was used and only had a few threads worth to clamp down on, the bolt was definitely not OEM spec in length given were the threads start. Drilling out bolt holes in the block is out of my comfort zone so need a mechanic on this one. With no luck around here for awhile, I am willing to tow as far as the Bay Area at this point. Any ideas or experience??

P&K in San Francisco is really knowledgeable with Delicas, honest people over there with really reasonable pricing.

They've done a bunch of work on our Delica as well as other forum members.

I moved to Sacramento in Spring and just had a good experience with Midtown Auto (formerly called Japanese Import Auto) on Q street (https://midtownautorepairservice.com/)

The owner Sage was very comfortable around the delica - he's got a history working on HiAces and other JDM vans - and his technicians were knowledgeable about japanese diesel motors as well. He's also got reliable sources for parts quickly.

Little pricey though, think it was $450 for a half days' work on it and he didn't replace any parts.

Did you submit him to the Delica Map?

Thanks a lot for the info, they are a little closer also.

Is there a way to edit this map? I know the place listed in Auburn, California no longer does work on Delicas as they only take "higher end European autos" due to an ownership change.
I just added your comments.

[Update to the above post]

I added Imports Only Carson City to the Mechanic Map. They repaired by alternator bolt issue and a coolant leak I had. I heard of them via a guy I ran into on the road who took his Subaru JDM van in to them, a Sambar I think? So they are comfortable working with JDM vehicles, worth calling them if you need a mechanic in the Reno-Tahoe area.

Hey everyone,

I also live in the Sacramento area as well and have been taking my Delica to University Automotive in Arden-Arcade.
Really great and quick work. They'll find and ship special pieces for you if you cant find them, at no extra cost too. Would definitely recommend.
