Rain gutter attachment tips wanted

Finally going to attach my roof top rack (front runner slimline II) to my L300.

I’m concerned about clamping down on straight painted metal of the gutters and exposing bare metal to corrosion. My van has 1/4 of the chrome molding (see pic) so I plan on taking that off and mount the rain gutter mounts.

I’ve been advised to put cushion on it once with little guidance on what that would be.

Thinking of adding a bedliner layer to the gutters to reduce chances of cracking of paint and exposure.

Any prior experience or tips are apprecated.

Thanks!

After striking out on finding someone who would 3D print the gutter guards linked above for me (I contacted a few 3D print services) , I'm going to try 'automotive door edge guard/edge trim'. It comes in rolls in a variety of materials and profiles. I'm not sure how tough it is to withstand the weight placed on it by a gutter mount roof rack, but I'll try it and report back.

Did you end up sorting something out?

I just installed the same rack and was wondering the same thing about paint protection

I came across this article where the guy uses rubber trim, but then is told directly from front runner not to do this (although it seems many people do it anyway)

I might go the 3D print route or find some pliable plastic to heat mold around the foot.

I have not gotten around to doing this. FWIW, I haven't seen any damage to the gutters just using the Thule feet by themselves (without extra protection other than the rubber that comes on the foot.)

Thank you for the article, and whatever solution you end up with, please post some photos.
