Silencing the Speed Chime

I'm on the first leg of a big 2,000 mile trip and this chime is slowly boring a hole through my eardrum. I found a thread on the Delica Canada forum that mentioned it was right behind the instrument panel, but I looked for quite a while and couldn't find it. Does anyone have a photo of the chime module or a general location? My L300 is from 89' if that helps at all - I know at some point they added a reverse chime.

It's on the back of the instrument cluster, connected by two wires.
MODOCUK guide to removing the instrument cluster.
I didn't photograph mine when I removed it, but it's pretty obvious. Here's something similar- the speed chime is the big metal box. Our wires go to a couple of screws rather than to a plug.

That's what I expected to find last time I went hunting, but the back of my cluster is just the PCB and connectors. Should I go a step further and remove the PCB to get behind the gauges?

Wait. What? Mine had the chime on the back, the wires were routed through those little white tags! What a strange thing to change.
Which means I'm out of my depth on this one.

Edit: Starting to suspect I was thinking of a different vehicle. Whoops.

There's not a lot of room in the case for something as large as a speedo chime. Removing the PCB won't tell you much, as the plastic behind it is fairly solid. Plus, you'll release the tachometer mechanism when you take the screws out, which is tricky to realign.
To peek inside you have to remove the clear front panel, the speedo and tachometer needles, then the back panel. Be gentle when removing the needles, they can become brittle. Don't touch the black panel with your fingers, it's a matte finish and you'll leave shiny marks.

It's possible your speed chime is elsewhere! I'd guess it's near the wiper linkages, that's where the lights on squeaker and a bunch of other boxes are.

Just finished reassembling the panel and I think I found the trigger for the chime, but I couldn't find the actual chime. It looks like this small copper tab makes contact with the barrel below the speedo meter when it's above 100 km/h. I really should've taken more photos before removing the tab, but I was in a rush to get this together and back on van. I drove it around and everything all seems to be working as it was. I'll get it up to speed to confirm the chime is gone later tonight.

Well this worked, but was way more invasive than I would've liked. For anyone with the same cluster setup you should be able to just remove this screw. I'm 90% sure it's the screw circled and if it isn't it's definitely the one above it. Sorry for not being exact, but hopefully someone can confirm this with their delica.

89 Exceed, and mine looks like Max's, not yours Growler. I was almost certain the chime was in the dash but maybe that's the door and light buzzer. When the weather warms up I could be convinced to hit this to confirm with the screw. Honestly though I am not bothered staying below 105km. i did just get larger tires so I do get to go faster with the speedo staying on the lower side by a few kmh. But time in the van is my quite time. I am no rush and I kind of like it that way.

I'm just gonna go ahead and delete my post, because it's confusing (and I'm beginning to suspect I was thinking of a different vehicle!)

This is definitely a thread for the FAQs though.
