Starting help! Click click click...

This has never happened before. Van is running great, get in this am after driving in the rain yesterday. Twist the key in the ignition to wait for the 2 relay clicks and it just goes haywire with clicking from I believe is the relay.

Click click click click click super fast.

So I have a glow plug bypass switch. I switched that on for a few seconds and the van started right up and the clicking went away once running.

I turned the van off after a couple minutes. Put ignition back to the position to cycle the relay and I heard only 2 clicks this time but they happened one after the other. No 4-6 seconds between. If I let the van cool down it clicks in rapid continuous fire again.

Here's a video.

I first try to put the ignition in the second position and get the relays to work but I just get the rapid clicking (I'm not trying to crank it at this point). I then manually cycle the glow plugs, crank it and it starts up right away.

I then shut the van off, and try again and hear the 2 clicks one after each other without the delay.

Anybody have an idea? This is my first ignition issue. At least I can still start the van and use it...

The system uses several sensors to determine if the engine is running, if it is warm, and the resistance of the glow plugs (hot/cold). Sounds to me like moisture is causing one of them (or the controller box) to act up.

It could have been moisture. I drove the van for an hour yesterday, woke up, went to start and it’s back to normal again. It’s those weird gremlins again...
