Steps to change Alternator on diesel L300 Delica?

Just replaced my alternator on Wednesday, was kind of a pain. One weird thing I discovered is that whomever replaced the alternator last time used a really small bolt on the pivot. Luckily nothing was rounded out and the right size replacement was easy to find but it was just odd. Took the opportunity to replace the valve cover gasket, belts, oil change. Kind of wonder if that's why I've had belt problems since day 1.

So the old alternator is a Mitsubishi one and the replacement was an amazon one I bought cause I was in a pinch. Thinking of repairing the original and keeping it on hand just in case. Anyone else do that? I think its just the regulator and you can get a new one for about $40.

I went through a couple of aftermarket replacements before rebuilding my original. I'd definitely hold on to it.
What year is your Delica? If it's a later model (I think 1994- ) it'll use a 10mm bolt, but earlier ones had 8mm. Maybe someone used an early bolt? And yes, I'd expect a small bolt to cause problems with the belts.

It's a 95, I hauled the whole alternator to the hardware store to make sure I got the right one. The bolt had to be half the size of the one that fit. Like a 4mm. I'm guessing someone lost the original and just slapped it back together with what they had.

I think I'll dig in and see what's wrong with it. since it still turns smoothly my guess is the brushes on the regulator. Thanks

With one or the other, in the long run, you can experiment making it a 150 amp!

Hey, does anyone happen to know what the likely amp rating for the 1996 L300 is? I've tried hunting google and found the part on amayama but just can't see the current rating anywhere.
I have a feeling I read it's a 90amp somewhere but want to confirm. Terrified of putting a dc-dc charger on that's too large and frying it.

Someone suggested possibly adding a second alternator and running the dc-dc charger from that instead. Sounds difficult. Anyone considered / done that?

Thanks in advance - you guys and this forum are awesome!
