Swapping Fuel Lines

Hey all,
I'm changing soft fuel lines today, and curious about the process of restoring fuel to the lines once swapped. My gut is telling me the manual push pump on the fuel filter is the answer, and I just keep working that thing til I can't any longer. Hoping I don't have to bump the starter until fuel pressure is restored, as I just installed an Optima and I'm worried I'll fry my lil starter.

I hope you don't have a full tank of diesel, or you better be quick. I just used the prime pump to refill the filter and clear any air in the new supply hose; I didn't bother bleeding all the way to the injectors.

uh oh, is she gonna spit fuel relentlessly? I wonder if removing the gas cap will help with that. I guess I'll just go line by line.

When you pull the lower end of the supply/return lines the tank/hard line is going to drain like an open hole...because it is. If you could block the vent and leave the cap installed it would probably leak a lot slower.

Curious to hear how it goes. I’ve had issues ever since i did a fuel hose replacement. Not sure if i didnt get something tight or i through on an i. Correct diameter hose.
Be vigilant that you use correct hose size and get your clamps tight.
My issue is that i lose prime over night. So it takes some extra cranking. I went ahead aNd purchased metric fuel hose to swap in, just haven't got back into it.
Good luck. Looking forward to the results.

Heeded your warning on the tank level @sk66 , good call. I spilled probably less than an oz of fuel pulling all 3 lines at once. Pumped the prime a few times, closed the bleeder with the pump depressed, and she fired right up.

@Nenw I just grabbed low level EFI hose (±3.5 bar) from Autozone. (2x) 13in by 3/8in and (1x) 13in by 1/4in (I didn't change the injector-to-pump line because I didn't have enough new clamps). I cranked the living hell out of those hose clamps to make up for the gap from SAE to Metric, and luckily had ordered some new OEM clamps. I genuinely think older rusted clamps would've snapped. Just changed the lines today, so if I've lost prime tomorrow, I'm certain it's just that minor gap that's giving us hell. But I was right up to 120kmh today and idle strangely felt a bit smoother (I easily fall victim to DIY placebo).
I'll update in a couple days if there aren't any obvious issues tomorrow.

Factory is 6mm (.236) return line and 8mm (.315) for all others. I used 1/4" (.25) and 5/16 (.313). The hoses fit perfectly fine, and I just used spring clamps.

@connorwhite.online yeah, i botched sizing some hoses at first when doing the o'riellys thing and even did the same thing as you can tightened the f out of the new clamps. I had a small leak initially from one tank but not after getting it good'n'tight

@DustAngel Belmetric is exactly where I got mine from. You can also get a good idea of the size needed by the spec in epc-data.com. I haven't seen this detail called out in Amayama or Megazip. I feel that epc-data is on a whole other level of part detail at times.

It just takes some time to sort through. Especially for an A/T. so many fuel hoses with the dual tank setup. an example below of two of the 70 fuel hoses.

If I understand the units in the spec correctly (8x2000, 6x2000) these hoses are supposedly 2 meters in length (2000mm)!?!?!?!

They seem much shorter in real life ...

I ordered these part numbers. They were the correct hose for me and you get a bit more than needed!

05499B and 05499E are the same part (i.e. 2m cut into two sections)

Is there a PSI range when selecting non-OEM hose? I got some 5/16" (7.9mm) GATES 4219BG Barricade Fuel Hose 50 psi GreenShield from my local Napa ... "NOT FOR FUEL INJECTION". Presumably this is my mistake because of how I described the fuel system to the sales-person ... but for future reference.

Regular 50psi fuel line is fine... the supply side is under vacuum, and the return line is low pressure. "Not for fuel injection" means not suitable as supply lines to the injectors (which are metal).
