I know that many posts have been made regarding towing capacity for a 2.8L TD - L400, but I thought I'd share my experience so far (ours is a 97). We hooked up our teardrop trailer (which can weigh anywhere from about 1000 lbs to 1300 lbs--depending on what's in it), and gave it a shakeout drive today for the first time. It towed very nicely. While the revs increased more rapidly than usual going up inclines, it was easy to keep it around 2500 rpm. You just have to not be in a frantic hurry to get somewhere. On the freeway, going 100 kmh was super easy to keep it at or below 2500 rpm. All in all, very encouraging, and super stoked to do some longer road trips down the Washington and Oregon coasts. Attaching a few pics to see our setup.
