Turbo Charger for 1990's L300 (advice on where to buy)

It is a "Garrett" ordered through Steven (see above) from Vancouver BC. He can also help you find the other needed parts, ie downpipe (bolt pattern, seals, waste gate actuator etc).

While exhaust temperature and boost itself may not be the ultimate indicators of turbo health, they will certainly help you to keep things in a normal range. I can easily get the exhaust temp up to 1600F (or higher), but I try to keep things below 1400F (on longer climbs). Boost you want to keep around 14psi, or you overpressure the engine (see overpressure valve). The overpressure valve was replaced with a "plug".
Uhh…. That’s hot

Uh, keep it under 1200 or you're going to be buying another turbo in the not to distant future. You can run it up to 1400 for a short amount of time but at 1600 your melting things.

As others have said, briefly touching 1400F is ok but for any sustained running (more than a minute) 1200F is the safe limit.

Being able to reach 1600F is surprising, has someone adjusted the injection pump settings for more fuel? There should be two anti-amper covers on the IP, if those are missing then it's probably been turned up.

If your IP still has the covers, then it might be something else restricting airflow. Check your air filter (I think you already changed it though), valve clearances, and make sure the exhaust system hasn't collapsed internally. I'm a big fan of a 2.5" exhaust, especially a side-exit.
