Washington Mechanics Thread

Im from Anacortes, WA and use Juracich Auto in Bellingham. Zach has about 30 Delica clients so I trust his work. Very knowledgeable and honest, and orders OEM parts if needed. I’m lucky to have a mechanic this close who can work on my van.

Hi there

I just contacted Eizo at Apex and he says he no longer works on Delicas. I've called around to various places all morning and cannot find anyone who is willing to work on these. Does anyone have any other recommendations for the Seattle area?

Thanks!

Wow! I go to the one in Bellingham but Apex was one of the primary mechanics for these. What a loss.

WHAAAAA?! Eizo was my man! Thats terrible news.

Wow, that's unfortunate. Eizo is really great. He's had other JDM cars in his shop when I've got there in the past -- I wonder if he still services those?

Does anyone happen to know why he stopped?

I appreciate any suggestions for Seattle mechanics who are interested and able on Delicas. The shop that handles my daily driver won't touch anything unusual.

I just talked to Eizo yesterday and learned the sad news. Apparently his uncle is his prime shareholder and pulled Eizo from working on JDM because it took too long to work with clients like us - which I translate as giving each of us that good, through, honest, well documented service.
This is truly disappointing. Anyone up for ganging up to buy a bigger share of Apex;)?

I just called Apex and was shocked to learn the sad news. Eizo told me that some other customers had mentioned going to a shop near downtown Seattle on Elliott Bay. I said I'd poke around the internet, but not sure who he was talking about. Are folks using Import Doctors (listed above) or is there anyone else in the local area that you folks like?

Man, that's sad news re: Eizo! Such a loss, but understandable considering he's such a small shop. :(

For transmission work specifically, I've currently got my rig at Kirkland Transmission. While the job isn't done yet, I've been really impressed by Tony's approach. The first shop I towed it to said they wouldn't even touch "that kind of vehicle". When I called Kirkland, he said "Bah! right hand drive vehicles don't scare us!" :). Both tow truck drivers vouched for Kirkland unprompted.

I sent him Growlerbearnz's awesome post about strengthening the 5-speed gearbox and he's already ordered the appropriate upgrade parts, with one of his guys on the phone with overseas providers making sure the parts were right. He's been very thorough describing what's broken and what they're doing to fix it, and actively looks for ways to save me money.

Only downside is they are really backed up, but from what I've experienced the wait will be worth it.

Edmonds Automotive Service might be an option for anyone on the Oly Peninsula. They're 3 blocks from the Edmonds ferry terminal on 3rd.
One of their mechanics, Nate, is a Delica fan but not an owner (yet). They've been willing to install new transmission mounts and a block heater for me within the past several months. Ask them nicely first as JDM is new to them. The only reason I stopped there is because they have a US-spec late-80's Nissan Van in their parking lot; apparently it's been there for years, and was given to them as payment by a customer who couldn't pay for the work they did on the van.

Awesome- thanks for sharing. There is another member asking about a peninsula mechanic in this forum so I linked your post there.

L300 gas (4G64) version here. Can anyone suggest anywhere in the greater Seattle area that will do either an engine swap or rebuild for a gasser? Apex is out and Juracich says he won't do it on a gasser because the parts are "impossible to find in the US" (though I haven't had that experience so far).

(I'd be open to traveling outside the Seattle area as well).

Two more possible shops for the greater Seattle/Eastside area:

Doctor Don's automotive
1136 NW 50th St, Seattle, WA 98107
(206) 783-6303

Loyal Automotive
7724 24th AVE NW Seattle, WA 98117
206.453.5466

Haven't used either of these shops personally, but JDM Car & Motorcycle suggested them. Doctor Don's said they work on a lot of Delicas and I'm (hopefully) having Loyal Automotive take care of my engine swap.

I recently had my aftermarket radiator installed by;

Added these two to the Delica owners/Mechanics map. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info. Import Doctors is on the Map.

Check out the "Delica Map" if you guys like. It has Delica members and mechanics. And if you'r not there and want to be added make a request. be happy to add you.

If you have water leaks and don't want to deal with them yourself. Durham Upholstery in Seatac will do water tests and replace any weather stripping if you supply them with new strippings. I had a doozy of a time finding anywhere that would diagnose and work on water leaks with these vans.
