Weird intermittent electronic buzzing sound coming from dash

Hey Delica lovers, got a new mystery on my hands.

I am getting my L300 ready to sell so I can get an L400 for longer road-tripping. I am fixing up my L300 as much as possible since it is still in great shape / putting on the market, etc. This particular issue has stumped me. The last few months, it's been intermittently making this electronic buzzing noise from the dash. See 1min video here:

For months, this sound would only happen occasionally, and then it would go away. Recently, it has been happening consistently, but changing in volume. Sometimes it is loud (like in the video) but other times you can barely hear it. It was happening most of yesterday as I was running errands around town, but then when I headed home, it disappeared again.

Any thoughts before I go digging into the dash / electrical?

bad connection somewhere most likely.
you can try to play with fuses first, see if its gone.
but i don't see you can avoid opening dashboard

Good idea to start by pulling fuses to narrow down where to look. After that it’ll be just tracing wires until you find something…

Thanks y'all. My hunch was to start playing with the fuse box. I appreciate the confirmation. I'll take a crack at it tomorrow and see where it all goes.

Are you sure it's not coming through the speakers? The only times I've ever "heard" anything electrical is with bad grounds causing noise through the speakers. There is a little backup beeper/speaker in the dash on a lot of the vans.

sk66, I think you may be on to something. These strange noises started happening about the same time that the "key still in ignition" alarm stopped working. Now, the key in ignition alarm will intermittently sound even with the keys not in the ignition, but it sounds like the speaker is dead / like a clicking sound. Whereas, the back-up sound still works and sounds normal. The back-up sound sounds different than the intermittent electronic whirring I am experiencing. The hard part it, all these strange sounds are intermittent. Either way, seems like replacing the fuses and playing with the fuse box is a first, and then maybe cracking open the dash and looking for bad grounds.

quite possible, there is small one which is beeping when you switch to rear. might be that simple

It sounds like a bad ground at the stereo to me. As a diagnostic step, find a piece of wire and run it from the battery negative directly to the stereo's chassis. If that fixes or changes the problem, then it's time to check the stereo's wiring and clean the dashboard earth points (check the workshop manual electrical section for their locations).
