New owner. Just picked up a 91 Super Exceed with Crystal Lite Roof, with a 2016 Hyundai Engine. Previous owner had installed a battery cut-off to cope with an unknown parasitic current loss (about 3.5 A) when the car was turned off. Did the pull-a-fuse test until I found the issue was with the "Lighting" fusible link. But, that could be almost ANYWHERE.
So, came up with a smart plan. Used a FLIR One thermal camera that I got for $99 a few years back, and with the car/engine cooled off overnight, with the battery connected, a battery charger hooked up and trickle charging, the ONLY part of the car that was above 78-82F was...
The alternator! Me thinks the diode/rectifier is shot.
So, ordered a new one, and will rebuild the old and keep as a spare. I would have tried to rebuild it today, but since the oil pump is connected to the alternator, I'd need to drain the oil to take out the alternator. Since, I'd need to drain the oil, I might as well change the oil and filter. But, NO ONE open on Labor Day had the filter in stock.
So, ordered fuel filter, oil filter, alternator, 6 quarts of Mobil-1 Synthetic for Turbo-Diesels, and a 6 gallon oil drain pan.
Have been driving electric vehicles so long, that I didn't have any of my old oil change gear.
