What type of oil do you use?

Recently purchased a '93 Delica L300 in Vancouver BC. I'm coming up on my first oil change and wondering what oil you use in your Delicas. I've used the Rotella diesel oil in my 7.3 ford truck for years but not sure if this little 4 cylinder needs something different. Thanks for any help!

I recently bought a Delica and am looking for the same info. Any good replies would be appreciated.

A mechanic here in Seattle with years of experience working on Delicas (he's worked on many of ours here on the forums) recommended Liqui Moly 2044 15W-40 for me. It is expensive, though.
I've been topping off with rotella 15W-40 non-synthetic since I purchased Delilah in June. Going to do an oil change this weekend or next. Would a change to synthetic be worth while?

Hello. I’ve been researching the same thing as it’s a little difficult not having a manual that states what to use. I did find this which I’m basing my search on as a starting point. Hope it helps.

I certainly don't know enough to say if it's worth it, but Slowis does tend to run well with it, and I haven't noticed any downside other than price. Given that the recommendation came from a very thorough mechanic (Eizo at Apex Auto in Burien) who has lots of experience with these engines and no incentive to sell me the oil, I trust his recommendation. Given all the things we're all constantly doing to these old vans, it's a relatively small premium to pay for the most vital fluid, IMHO. If you don't know when your fuel filter was last changed, I'd recommend changing that, too. Mine definitely runs better with a new one.

I use Rotella in everything from RZRs, sport bikes, and misc vehicles. The first thing I did when my last Delica landed was change the filters and a Rotella oil change.

10:4. I"ll be changing fuel filter as well when I do the oil/filter change and new air filter. Cheers!

Any chance if the vehicle has been running conventional oil it’s whole life then changing to a full synthetic could damage internal parts? Or cause an issue down the road?

No, you can switch back and forth... the idea that you can't is a myth.

I run rotella T6 5-40... but IMO full synthetic is just a waste of money if you are going to be doing 3k oil changes.
Do you have a diesel or a gasser? Would you recommend 15-40 full synthetic for a diesel l300? Or are you supposed to adjust the weight differently?

Diesel, which is why I went full synthetic; to get the 5w winter weight... it helps with cold starts.

If I followed the recommended service intervals of every 6 months (regardless of miles), or every 3k km due to "severe use" (most of my driving qualifies), then I would probably use dino oil and adjust the weight seasonally; maybe a semi synthetic for winter.
But I don't...
