Wind noise

I have noticed with my delica there is a huge amount of wind noise when going highway speeds from around my doors/windows. There is actual wind coming inside. I thought I would check here if anyone has found solutions for cutting this down. Curious if some sort of wind deflectors would help this but wanted everyone’s opinion!

Several solutions, but all given with the caveat that you're driving a cab forward vehicle so it's a losing battle.

1) Replace window and door seals up front. ESPECIALLY THE INSIDE SEAL ON THE BOTTOM PART OF EACH WINDOW.

2) Take the lower door apart, use sound mate on it and then reseal the door. The metal part of each door vibrate so even a little wind noise gets magnified by this part of the door.

3) Buy FOUR channel guides that clip to the inside of the leading edge of each window (two each). CATCH, FR DOOR WINDOW GLASS MB421735

4) Look for leaks and problems under your dash. Take it apart, re-insulate and isolate vibrations. There are going to be a metric tonne of them here.

5) Replace engine compartment insulation as well as that crappy sound insulation all over the outside of the engine hump.

6) Invest in some nice ear muffs

The parts list specifies 2/vehicle... I only needed one on each side (with new window seals).Screen Shot 2019-06-05 at 2.39.28 PM.png

Edit: and the price is 50% higher from Megazip (as usual) than it is from Amayama.

I am having trouble visualizing this catch in the window. Does anyone have pictures of this piece installed?

All excellent suggestions above. Also check your door alignment, the hinges wear over time and the back of the door can droop. The door gap should be even all the way around, and the door should be flush with the surrounding metalwork not sticking out. If it's not right you can adjust the alignment by loosening the hinge bolts and moving the latch striker plate.

Thought I might leave a bread crumb here. I had a persistent buzzing noise that sounded all the world like a vibrating plastic panel or sheet metal fin, coming from behind the steering wheel. It was associated only to road speed and only apparent over 80kph. It took a while, but I finally tracked it down to a flat piece of weather-strip which is attached with double sided tape to the top of the headlight assembly. It was loose at one end and was thrumming like a blade of grass held between your thumbs (if you used to whistle that way as a kid). I checked the passenger side and noticed that side to be quiet- that tape had presumable let go completely because there was no weather-strip on that headlight. Anyway, it is great to have taken care of the first-order noise. On to the wind recommendations above!

I found that installing these, and getting them properly adjusted (more fiddly than one would think), helped more than the new door/window seals had... or maybe it just finished up the job. My van is much quieter now...
I bought and installed these, as the plastic on mine was crumbling. Really helped, but I am unsure on the adjusting. I simply screwed the new ones in. I will tell you, while I had rattle, air, and noise prior, the doors are now closing a bit too tight. You can tell there is a good bit of tension in there when you open via in or out handle. And the door seals are incredibly compressed, almost like pulling a suction cup when you open the door. Do you back off the screw?

WOW WTF! Shout out to you! I have been hunting this sound down for months. Literally driving me crazy. I thought it was the top plate cover to the front sway bar box. Took that out, thinking for sure I had solved it. Took it out for a shakedown and bam right at 80km/h the kazoo was back.

Found this thread last night and your comment, which wasn't even really related to wind noise, went out this morning and boom. I had the exact opposite situation as you. Removed the pass side light and sure enough, half-secured rubber trim, blowing like a reed in the wind.

Thank you so much! I'm going to make a thread specifically related to this so others can find it easier.

Thanks for posting. That’s the glory of the forum and I’ve gotten so much from others; glad to keep the karma going.
