4M40 Engine Oil Capacity

I have a '94 4M40-powered L400 Space Gear. I originally thought the engine oil (with filter) capacity was 7.5 L. Online, suggestions vary from 5.5 L to 8.5 L. I've heard people say the FSM says 7.0 without filter, and 7.5 with. Delica USA says 8.0 L.

Does anyone have a definitive answer?

FYI: I did some cross-referencing and used NAPA 1675 (Wix 51675) for my filter. It's a bit smaller than the massive Azumui C23315 filter that was on the van. I just drained mine and changed the filter and put in about 7.25 L (I originally put in 7.5, but drained out a bit). The dipstick is rather hard to read on this thing, too.

I recently did mine and used (2) 5 quart containers of Shell 15/40 and had about 1.5 quarts left over once I changed the oil and filter, ran the engine and topped it off. So that put it right at about 8L. It is also going to be different depending on the size of the oil filter you get. The oil filter that I had on my Deli when I got it was huge and I replaced it with the same size filter. After doing some research I found there are other filters that will fit and do the same job but are not as big. That may be the .5L difference.

Hey there I know this is an olddd post, but any chance you could share with us what filters you found would fit this engine? I’m a new owner and need to change the oil soon, and there’s info in these forums about filters for the l300 but I havnt seen any info on what filters to get for the L400 diesel

A quick google search for 'delica l400 oil filter' brings up a few options and further search avenues, but DelicaUSA has a list that will likely be helpful:

Donaldson P502008
Fleetguard LF3817
Fleetguard LF3830
Fram PH5529

I currently use the WIX 51675 which is the larger oilfilter (Good for 10k miles).
Oreilly's in the US carries it but its pricey

You can probably find it cheaper online.

I appreciate that help, thank you. I’ve been having trouble finding the sump plug (besides having to pay 30$ shipping for a 1$ part for the original Mitsubishi part. I’m just not very good at this researching internet stuff, but I have put a good effort in and can’t figure it out. Is there a way to find out if there are sump plugs offered domestically here in the states that I could by in store or online that cross reference the Mitsubishi part MD951858 ?

Oil Pan Plugs are pretty generic.
Here is the link to the part number -
Try searching "Oil Plug MD050316"
You will find plenty for under 10$ shipped. If you can cross reference to a car made in the US a local parts store will have it.

Couldn’t find rear diff capacity or type either
Rear Diff is easy peasy. Open the top bolt and then open the drain bolt to drop the oil. Put the drain plug back in. Fill up your oil until it gets to the bottom of the fill hole (Top bolt hole) Put the plug back in. I am pretty sure if I remember correctly that it took around a quart of oil. 75w-90 for non LSD axles (GL-5) and 80w-90 for LSD axles. I think the 80w-90 will work in the non LSD pumpkins but the Manual calls for GL-5 in both cases and specifies 80w-90 for LSD axles.
