Any interest in a Death Valley 2-3 day over landing trip, Spring errr Fall 20'

Also Bay Area individual who is interested to come! I'll be making a trip to the Winds this month so having something on the books for later this year would be super!

Ok, officially restarting this trip thread, with a slightly different name.
If you are new to this thread read the first post, etc (depending on level of boredom), but mentally cross out all that crazy March time frame talk and drop in Thursday 5th through Sunday 8th in November. We ended up cancelling last minute, literally as Bay Area shut down w/the rest of the state to soon follow.
I was figuring I’d wait until things calmed down with Covid, but 4 months later things don’t appear a whole lot different, so what the hell. Figure even if we have to practice social distancing we can still do a trip. Thanks Josh

Okay. I'm in.

Dude, of course you are still welcome regardless of vehicle. Originally I was just circulating the trip on this forum (versus ExpoPortal.com) cause I was worried about what the Delicas would be able to cruise at and didn't want to hold up any of the folks that usually go on overland trips I have organized. Now my buddy w/a 96 Montero SR is working on his vehicle so he can go and a buddy in Burbank (who has rocked a 99' Montero on a number of trips) is tryingto clear his schedule so his family can take his newly acquired landcruiser on the trip. I don't perceive going down Lippencott or down the steps in Dekeedra Canyon (the direction we are going over the pass is the easier way typically)
-Josh
Are your non-Delica friends interested in coming? I've got some non-Delica (Jeep Wrangler and Sportsmobile) friends interested in coming...

I too have non-deli friends interested. Has anyone looked at the weather forcast? It's looking sort of warm around Nov 5-9.
Well, just for reality checking...

Weather in Death Valley @ -200ft != Weather at Racetrack Playa @ 4,000ft, Saline Valley @ 1,200ft, Eureka Dunes @ 3,000 ft , etc...
On March 19-20th, weather reports for Death Valley said.... "71°-73°F as a High and 56°-48°F as a Low and a 10% of precipitation" and we got 3-4 inches of snow that night at Racetrack Playa!

Yeah my buddy Chris w/a 96 Montero SR with a fresh motor, and Nick w/a early 2000's built Lexus LC are both coming at this point. Both have been on multiple trips that I have organized.
Weatherwise, it can be all over the place in early November. Nights can be below freezing above 6k' and low 70s at sea level on the same night. I always pack for both summer and winter for trips to DV in the Fall or early Spring.

In regards to total vehicles coming, if the group is big we can break up into a couple groups if need be? My guess is the speed in a Delica is going to be much slower than some of my previous rigs where some attendees may have thought we were trying to recreate a Dakar.

Ok, we are under 3 weeks away from trip. Can everyone who is planning on going send me a PM here so I know who is going, also if you are bringing any other vehicles? Let me know if you aren’t intending on starting in Beatty, NV on Thursday October (just realized it will be November )5th. Meet up time is 12-1pm. Location in Beatty to follow. I will give you my cell #, so you can call me if you are running late on Thursday.
thanks

Here is the map from post #41, that covers intended route.

(edit) damn, lost my post after adding another picture.
1st night intention is to stay at bottom of Racetrack at Homestake Dry Camp. Great opportunities for night time and sunrise photos of moving rocks and area.
2nd day after going down Lippincot, head North on Saline Valley RD, right turn at Bat Rd and head for hot springs. NPS, has closed/drained springs to avoid people in close contact. We might want to push on over Steel Pass either camping mid pass (probably pretty desolate) or descend down to base of Eureka Dunes. Also a great opportunity for sunset/night/sunrise photos and/or hIking the tallest dunes in California.
3rd day, after a 10 mile drive to intersection of S. Eureka Rd & Big Pine-DV Rd, depending on everyone’s fuel reserves we can head to Big Pine (25 miles) or head on one of the routes outlined below covering Tule Canyon, Cucomungo Canyon or Piper Mtn. Anything North of BP-DV rd is new territory so I’m cool with whatever the group wants?

At this point Scott, is the only one who has confirmed he is still coming from this forum. Let me know if you are still planning on coming. I have a couple confirmed folks from LA area meeting on Thursday and a group of 3 vehicles who are meeting us on Friday morning at our campsite who will be continuing on the rest of the trip.
Meet up spot on Thursday November 5th 12-1p Goal is to head out at 1pm. Besides cheap gas, this place has a few shops to stock up on provisions.

I have bow out. Van is down with a torn gaitor & needing new ball joints. Going into the mechanic hopefully this week. Then next weekend is me in San Luis Opisbo to finish up Thombs engine swap. (Made a commitment:D)
