Battery?

My battery tray is long but it only have one battery. It came like this when it was imported from Japan. I now need to change my battery. I think my rig originally came with 2 batteries, what batteries should i use? My rig is a JB500. Thx

If I am not mistaken Stock is a group48 size battery. This should allow you to run 2 batteries if you like. You will however, need to get all of the proper wiring installed.

My van came with a larger group27(a) battery. Its a tight fit but works. It has to be run width wise. It will not fit front to back as it is too long.

As for brand and type, I guess that depends on budget. Lead-acid on the cheap side, AGM in the mid, and lithium ion if you’ve got money just burning holes in your pockets.

So where is your battery? Mine is outside the van and I access it with a hatch under the bench seat behind the drivers seat.

Attached is my battery receipt which is fine. You can see what I paid. I destroyed it when my hab battery failed so effectively shorting out the vehicle battery, but these guys gave me a replacement with no hassle

95AH lion batteries at that price!?! :) let us know if you find them in US.

Do you already have another battery (aux/house/cab battery) that runs the appliances?

Noticed your in Scotland. So a 95AH Lion battery is 60GBP ~ 82USD?

I am not in Scotland. I am in Los Angeles.

Yes I already have a house battery.

How does JB500 handle charging the house battery? From alternator?

Scotland remark/battery question was reply to Arnothill :)
The alternator is charging the house battery fine. I have 350 watt solar panel that charges house battery and the starting battery. I also have an isolator that isolate the starting battery.

Great setup.
btw. should consider adding yourself to the Delica Map if u haven't. Good to find local mechanics/meetups, etc.

Yep, I am in Scotland. Yes, it was a good price.

The hab battery gets charged up somehow, but now that all the lights are led and I use camp sites fairly often (so the battery gets a charge from the mains) I dont really know how effective the altenator is at charging.

Its an excellent price!!!

If setup that way, alternator is a good way to charging the house battery while driving. Only thing is that it would work best with Lead Acid Batteries(Deep cycle, etc.) due to the resistance in the batteries to throttle the Amps going into the battery. Lion batteries have less resistance and gulp up any current they can grab that could put extra pressure on alternator, and also damage the battery if there is no battery management system. Some/most alternators do have a regulator not to overheat.

And yes; get yourself on the map :) be nice to see someone in Scotland.

I put in a voltage sensitive relay to help the battery management. I can get cheap batteries and endless Scotch too, plus Trump is not allowed in (covid). Whats not to love about Scotland?

Spent a few great days in Edinburgh back in 2012. The tasting rooms spoiled me rotten :)
So yay or nay on independence post brexit?

Nay. Economy is too small. All the successful small countries are tax havens or have vast natural resources. Too much of our economy is public sector and we rely on subsidies from London. And Scotland would have to duplicate so much stuff like having its own navy, vehicle licensing, spies...nay from me. But it will be a close race.

Interesting. Isn't Scotch Scotlands natural resource? :) Good luck either way. Met a lot of warm/hospitable people in my short visit.

Your on the map btw.

Cool to be on the map.

There are a lot of cool things about Scotland. People, architecture, outdoors and alcohol all good. Weather is...interesting. Local economy has some challenges. Although I personally am against Independence I do accept the other side of the argument has a fair case too. Should the southern states leave the union? Did that ever get settled?
