Bench Seats vs Captains Seats

We are currently on the hunt for a Delica and one thing we have been torn about is the middle row of seats. Most of what we see are bench seat setups, but the captains seats seem a little more functional. The reason we think that is because when we eventually want to make the van in to a camper we could have storage along the drivers side wall and still be able to fit a single captains seat back in the van if we bring a friend with us. What I'm wondering though is if it's possible to scoot the bench seat closer to the door if you remove the fold up seat that hangs off the side? If this is possible this would give us a lot more options of vans to look at. Ideally we will have a bed and storage in the back, so a seat might not even be able fit back in if we do that. I know a lot of people make a bed that turns in to a bench, but I can't imagine that would safe or legal to use as an actual passenger seat even if we mounted seatbelts. Any tips or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Eric
