Beware of Scammers

I posted in the "Parts Wanted" of this forum. A person PMed me, saying he had the part I wanted. After some back and forth, that person seemed hinky. He sent me a picture of a triple gauge pod. I did a reverse image search on the picture and I found that same picture posted in the DelicaForum, by a well-known DelicaForum denizen. I asked that denizen about it, and the denizen said he wasn't the guy trying to sell me that gauge pod.

Dirty rotten scammer wanted me to send him money for fictitious parts.

One thing that I've seen on other car forums that seems to work well is that the seller must include their username in the photo of the part for sale. This is usually a scrap of paper with their username hand-written on it and held next to the part. This would have prevented the scam in this case I believe. Something for the moderators to think about in the For Sale section?

I didn't have a part listed for sale, though. I posted in "Parts Wanted." The scammer saw that I wanted a part and approached me via PM.

Do you still need a triple guage pod?
