Cold Weather Tips?

I recently acquired this beautiful 1994 L300! I brought it in in September, so it may be the first 1994 model in the US? For a majority of the year, and all of winter, we will be out in Colorado and during the summer we will be in Oregon.

Given that winter can be quite cold in both of those places I am seeking advice for how to keep my new treasure happy and healthy during the winter months. I have a block heater installed which is great when I'm somewhere with an outlet nearby, but I'd love to be able to go camping in the mountains where I will not have access to an outlet, nor will I be able to avoid some very cold mornings.

I would appreciate any and all advice. I hope this post is helpful to others as well! THANKS!

I use a Diesel Kleen product that helps prevent fuel from gelling in the filter; can find it or similar product most anywhere.

Also, keep your belts, alternator, battery and glow plugs in good order and it’ll start a lot better.

Cycling the glow plugs a few times has helped me in low temps before.

Can lock the throttle with that little knob on the dash to help warm up for a few minutes, too.

You have probably suffered through a winter in Colorado already and got a handle on it :) But an initial investment in a diesel coolant heater or space heater is well worth it if you are spending a lot of time outside. They are a little pricey but a well rounded solution.
