Currently Seeking 92 Delica Super Exceed

Hello all,

I've been in the market for quite some time and have a lead on a nice looking 92 Super Exceed w/ Crystalite Roof (Mountain Goat). I can do basic vehicle maintenance and willing to learn. No experience with turbo diesel or diesel for that matter. I am an avid sea kayaker, surfer and love to camp. This vehicle could do all with my gear, wife and 3 year old. Any advice welcome, positive and negative. Most of my trips would be limited to 5-8 hour road trips. Not sure if the crystallite roof would give me trouble (rust/leaking) loading boards/kayaks on top. However, I am very thorough about keeping the salt cleaned off. Mostly interested how well it will hold up in the Southeast, specifically GA/FL Coast?

Japan is much like the US in that it has coastal areas with corrosive salt and high humidity as well as road salt usage in northern areas during winter weather. You will want to use a reputable importer to get a mostly rust free vehicle and address any rust once you receive it. Just need to take care of it like any other vehicle made of steel. As far as the Crystalite roof, I think the good quality vehicles will be fine, but if you are going to roof rack it and have equipment up there, you may just want a solid roof model instead. Being in GA/FL if you do get a Crystalite roof you are probably going to want to invest in a good tint job to reject a lot of the solar gain through those windows all around.

I would say if style of a Delica interests you, just jump in and get one. They are pretty easy to work on there is lots of help from English speaking forums from UK, Australia, and Canada. Most basic maintenance parts are easy enough to source, and the more advanced stuff is available, but can be expensive and more difficult to locate.

I decided to stay away from the glass roofs. shades seem to be trouble and expensive to fix.

plus there is so much glass in these vans already and the sun bakes them

over 6k miles and I love my Chamonix!!

It sounds like you're an outdoor player...

Pretty sure these vans were specially designed for guys like you :)

In all honesty I think you'll be fine if you find a solid Crystal Lite and don't abuse it.

Bill's Jasper says those exact words on the side. Hilarious!

Thank you Kellyn. I was wondering if anyone was going to get the joke :D

Last year I was adventuring in an L400 Chamonix that said the same thing on the side.

Right now I have one that has these decals on the side:

Gotta love the quirky decals they put on some of these vans!

Sorry to go off-topic!

rtaylor6753 how about an update? You find yourself an L300 yet?

Oh yeah! Picked up a 92' Super Exceed w/ Crystal Lite Roof. "She's a beauty". Very clean, inside and out. Just a few upgrades I will do; EGR delete, maybe side dump exhaust and stereo unit. Maybe some interior alterations to better suit camping/surf trips. Aside from that, I couldn't ask for anything more. Mechanically good to go for a while. Thanks for asking!!
