Deli Dream Dead for California

Dream not totally dead! After way too many trips to the CHP, even a 6 hour failed round trip to Ventura to get an inspection, I finally got my plates from the DMV today. The officer at the Westminster CHP (which is where I had to get it done based on jurisdiction) didn't want to fill out the CHP inspection because he said if he did, my vehicle would not ever be allowed to be registered here without first going through G&K. I finally just asked him to fill it out and put whatever info he had to that said it wasn't legal, which ended up just being "Ref 2014-14 for direct import vehicles" which the DMV didnt care about. So now I wait for Sacramento to hopefully ship the title! Thanks all for the help!

One more! Congrats. I’ve had mine registered over 2 years now in CA. Registration renewal twice without issue. They only ask for proof of insurance so you have to mail it in rather than electronic.

Did Sacramento end up sending you the title?

Yup! It came within a week, pretty quick.

Thanks for the reply man. Sounds like the Westminster officer was hard to deal with. I am in between Capistrano and Santa Ana CHP offices and currently setting up an appointment. Have owned a Delica for two years registered to Oregon, trying to transfer States now.

If YOU owned it previously in another state then I think there is another exemption that will allow you to LEGALLY skip all the CARB stuff. I had called Santa Ana as well and that guy seemed just as difficult as the one I dealt with. Let us know how it goes!

man, a lot of 805 people on this fourm. im obviously from ojai, but now live in Santa Cruz.

i was going to buy a delica in Washington state. i can register it at my aunts house outside seattle, and then if i brought it home to CA would it seem like i would be able to skip the carb stuff just by having it registered really quick in WA?

Well seems a little luck of the draw. I think if you just bring it in with a title from another state you may be ok (that was the case for me). If you do have it registered in WA first and they give you a hard time in CA, you could always just keep it registered in WA and see how long you can get away with it. I have never seen anything in writing that says just because it was registered in another state you can bypass the CARB bs in CA. Otherwise I would be bringing in a bunch of after registering it in a state where anything goes emission-wise i.e. AZ.

Hey man, I was just referred to San Juan Capistrano / Santa Ana CHP. How did it go for you? Pacific Choice said I might be better off with San Diego CHP but wanted to see if you got lucky.
