Diesel and Gas tanks interchangeable?

Sorry if this is already posted somewhere, I couldn't find anything in the search.

My gas L400 needs a new gas tank and they're pretty expensive, but I've found a pretty reasonable priced used tank out of a diesel L400. Are they different in any way? I've never worked on any diesels and don't know anything about how they work or if they would need a different tank.

Well, the complete assemblies have different part numbers, but look very similar. They definitely have different parts attached (i.e. the diesel doesn't have a fuel pump in the tank and a different filler neck).
