Electric fuel pump on 4d56 engine

I am think of installing an electric fuel on my 4d56, want to hear from those who have done it. What is you experience? How long have you had the installed? How many PSI? What kind of pump are you using? Thx

I did that when running veggy-oil some 20 yrs ago and it has been absolutely helpful. It's been a normal pump for higher streams in bigger engines and for sure nothing special. Can't remember the manufacturer, though …

Something around 3psi should be fine; but you shouldn't really need one unless operating at very high altitudes... it indicates another problem somewhere (e.g. fuel pickup screen clogging, IP screens clogging). If you do install one you might want to have a way to take it back out of the system (install in parallel).

But – wow – tell me more about what you are planning to do in Africa. My travel on this continent has been life changing for me – I'm married to an African 22 years now, we have two girls and are completely happy together!
Maybe I can see you later in L.A. when visiting my sister, who is happily married to an original SoCal local ... She also loves offroad adventures and travels intensely the high desert!

The IP screens are in the inlet and outlet banjo bolts... not all have one in the inlet; but even just a clogged outlet screen will mess up the pump delivery. The pickup screen is in the tank and is the primary/first stage filter for the fuel. I believe your truck is a manual w/ single OEM tank...Untitled-1.jpg
 
I would have thought an in-tank pump w/ it's own pickup would be better, rather than an inline pump; but that does compound the complexity. Either of those pumps should be OK... do either of them allow full fuel flow to be siphoned through them should they stop running?

I just thought of another (probably unlikely) suspect... an IP shutoff solenoid not opening fully (for whatever reason).

I got this pump. I spoke to tech support they said it will be at 3psi (even though it says 4-6psi) it has a bigger pipe so there will be no restriction if it fail or when it is shut down, also it does not have a check valve so that if it fail it will not restrict fuel. As i said earlier i will put a switch so that i can shut it down when it is not needed. Turn it on when i am in a climb. Also i will clean the IP screen. Hope it is not the in tank fuel screen that will be a lot of work, on a JB500. Thank you

I cleaned the IP screen. I continue to get power lost at 3000 rpm and above. Also i don’t hear the turbo spooling but I get boost just fine. I will install the electric fuel pump and check my turbo and piping to the inter cooler. Getting ready to go on a trip, want to make sure i make it there.
