Fuel mix screw. Rage and regret

I may have had an adhd rage moment while trying to put my IP cover back on and I un-did the fuel mix screw without measuring it (just a quick mark with a sharpie) I can get it close to where it was but not exactly. How screwed am I?I may also have done the same to the full throttle screw.
I have read the tuning tutorial. I am planning on just adjusting the fuel load screw until the engine idles at 750rpm (Don’t have an EGT installed yet was saving up for that). Then I was just going to try accelerating and hill climb and see if it behaves normally. (I normally don’t pushing it anyway)

That's the way to do it. The full load screw isn't all that critical anyway, if the engine's idling at 750 (with the idle screw about halfway out) then it's fine.

does this idle screw look right? I didn’t touch it but it seems like it’s not screwed out far enough to me.

The van seems low on power mainly when cruising on the highway it struggles to keep 80km/h even on the flat. Maybe I need to give it more fuel? I’m just nervous of doing that if the idle screw is incorrect and I’m basing my fuel mix on it.

Growler I messed up an adjusting the air lean mix screw forgetting how many turns I went and now I get unburnt fuel smoke goingnup hills or heavy acceleration going through the gears - whats the best way to start from scratch as I am always getting grey smoke now and need to also time my IP since doing the timing belt, waterpump, balancer belt swap

That's pretty good, and if it's idling at 750rpm with the idle screw in that position you'll have a little more power at the top end.

Did the van run properly before you removed the IP top cover? Check out this rebuild guide, steps 91 and 92. If you reassembled the control yoke/governor springs wrong then it'll behave strangely.
Does the engine start and idle easily and smoothly? It's unlikely to be the injection pump. I'd check that you're making boost, and the boost compensator on top of the IP is connected to the turbo. I'd also check the air filter and inlet pipes, just to make sure there isn't a restriction.

Just to confirm: unburnt fuel smoke is grey/white and smells like diesel. Black smoke is overfuelling (too much fuel, but it all still burns ok).

Unburnt fuel (grey smoke) is probably because your IP timing is wrong, but to get it that far out you'd have to be one tooth out. I'd pull the top timing belt cover and check that the 3 timing marks still line up.
If you didn't remove the IP from the engine (not necessary for a belt swap) then getting the marks lined up will get your timing back where it was. No need to adjust the IP timing.

A faulty injector(s) can also cause persistent grey smoke, but if it wasn't smoking before changing the timing belts then it's unlikely the injector(s) suddenly decided to fail.
Here's a guide to tuning the IP that has some measurements for the various settings, but all IP's are different so don't go adjusting something unless you already messed it up.

Thanks i will pull the injectors and clean them - i have been having this issue before the timing belt kit change - i removed the tamper.proof seals when in colorado as it started running like shit in the high elevations and i had to tweak the lean air mix a bunch of times when i was at 13,000 feet - i lost my marks since i kept going back and forth on the adjustment as i descended - didnt even think to check the injectors but i did swivel the IP pump a bit and i know i need to adjust drive it adjust and drive it to find the sweet spot.Bet a dirty.injector might be my issues of not being able to get her back to running perfect.Only has 55,000 miles on her

I've never had much luck cleaning injectors, by the time the spray pattern is off the pintle is usually damaged and they need to be rebuilt and calibrated. Still, if the fuel filter hasn't been changed often, it might be dirt and gunk that can be cleaned. May the odds be ever in your favour :)

I just painfully laid out $1000 to partsouq.com for oem injectors for my Prado landcruiser after waiting 3 months for a rebuilder who had mine s3nd them back saying he couldnt get all the parts to rebuild mine .Very frustrating .So the Delica ones will be very cheap in comparison - I will pull one and see what it looks like - might jsut order a new set and some glowplugs to boot - my truck had 45,000 miles when i bought it last june and maybe its time -

I think it did run pretty well. I’m still pretty new to it, so I’m still getting a feel for what’s trouble and what is just delica quirks.

I’ll recheck everything I touched and see if I put something back wrong. It starts easily, idles low until it warms up and then it has a smooth idle. Or though when cold it does have a concerning rattling noise form the left side until it warms up. The sound doesn’t go away but it get less. But maybe that’s just normal and I’m being paranoid now.

Anyway I think the alternator blew after crossing a shallow creek so I’ll trouble shoot once I fix that.

Thank you for all your help I really appreciate it.

How do you remove the tamper proof screw covers? I "practiced" on the throttle stop screw and it took me forever to extract the cover, by totally mangling it. Now I want to do the mixture screw cover, which is hard to get to, and am thinking maybe I need to dremel tool it off? Are there any tricks that would make this easier?

@estrasil -Rio from starwagon.info can help you - he helped me cut mine off with a dremel - I was on a cross country trip and my delica started running like shit in the high elevations over 7,000 ft - messed around with it and was able to re adjust the air fuel mix til I was running better - had to make the adjustments several times.I live at sea level - so the thin air didnt help.

Ok, thank you. I will try my dremel on it tonight. Thought maybe there was some other trick.

If you have really small flat screw driver you can also try to carefully pry and tear the cover off - yeah its in a bitch of a spot - take your time so you dont break or cut something your not supposed too!

The mangled mess I made before I finally tore it off.
