Howdy!
I've been lurking these forums for a bit so I figured I'd finally say hi. My wife and I have been interested in a van ever since we went to Joshua Tree last year. I was semi familiar with them, but my wife had no idea these were a thing. Luckily she quickly got hooked and we have been on the hunt since.
There are a few L300s we are eyeing around the country, but we haven't pulled the trigger yet. I've never bought a vehicle off the internet, much less one that's imported, so I've been overly cautious/hesitant. Especially since I've never driven or even been in one of these in person before. I've always had classic cars so I'm not afraid to do some work, but a diesel van is definitely all new territory for me.
I think my biggest concern at the moment is who to buy from. I've been chatting with and looking at a few at DelicaUSA. However, I know they have mixed reviews, and I've been grilling them extra based on what I've read. I was also talking with Mardy at Amazing Auto Imports for a bit. He seems like a great guy and has a really nice L300 at the moment, but with shipping the price is higher than what we want to spend. I'm also weary about dealing with the registration so I've been trying to find one in the states. Another one I've casually looked at is in Tennessee at a place called Dalton Pike Motors. I see no mention of them on here, but their online reviews are good and I can actually drive to them unlike other places. Has anyone had any experience with them? My only hesitation with them is that they just seem a bit rinky dink compared with other larger companies. Not that is bad.
Any tips or advice about getting in to this hobby would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully we will be able to get in to a van soon and have some adventures!
