Is your L300 Leaking Brake Fluid? **READ**

All done. I ended up taking out the dashboard as I replaced the clutch master cylinder as well. Everything came out easily and new parts went in easily. The brake master came off the brake booster easily without taking the booster assembly out. I also replaced the clutch slave cylinder. Bled both systems using the tube in a jar of fluid method. Today's test drive to work was worry free!

I hate to say this, and it's probably been said before; you do not have to remove the dash to change the master cylinder. The instrument panel comes out, move a few things out of your way, and you can access it through the hole. This was a 30 minute job at the shop to change the master cylinder on the L300.

I think I am having similar problems with the master cylinder. Need to find parts for my 1992 Delica. Is there some kind of part number I can use? Just want to make sure I get the right one....

I would honestly just pick up a complete master cylinder unless you really want to do a rebuild. If you do a rebuild you need should replace the caps and seals beneath them as well as the piston assembly. All the mitsubishi part numbers are listed earlier.

I am 90% certain that the US van master cylinder work. Those are the auto zone links. I am sure if you do quick search you can confirm.

I have a new L300 master cylinder I bought from Coombs Country Autos (Canada). I sold my L300 last year and need to unload it. $50 + shipping if you're interested PM me.

This EPC says MB407060 fits my 3/91 P25W. Rebuild kit MB277433 (MB928395) is 15/16". RockAuto lists MB407061 for an 89 USDM Van, with the same bore. I don't know what the difference is. Brake boosters are different as well.

Thanks @Nenw ! I ended up ordering that new Master cylinder from Autozone. Hopefully that will do it...

Since I'm not pinned at work right now my mental space was a little more free. I remembered reading that someone bought the MC from a domestic van and only needed to rotate the caps...you know, the whole LHD RHD thing. Anyway, looked back and it was just earlier in the thread and saw it posted by JP 805 Delica right after I posted. So many threads and so many responses, I don't even know where I am at half the time anymore o_O

Does Anyone that used the autozone replacement have any complaints after running them for awhile ? I had mentioned to my mechanic that I might need this repair done and he was very much against me using an autozone part when the labor costs would be so high for this repair.

I might have a spare spare set of Alt Belts. I definitely have a spare P/S belt. I will look tomorrow. I would stick with OE if you are paying to have the work done. Worst comes to worst, hit up any local mitsubishi dealer, they can get them for you. Sunset Mitsu/Kia in Auburn might even have stock.

I think I'm going to at least pull apart the dash to reduce some of the labor costs. Maybe I'll give replacing it a try myself but I'm not sure I want to wing it since I've never done this kind of repair before. I'll give some local Mitsubishi places a call.

Ugh. Add me to the club. Discovered a single drop of brake fluid on the rubber floor mat, under the steering wheel this morning. Looked up under the dash and sure enough, brake booster is wet and paint is starting to bubble.

I’ll get a brand new MC from one of the online retailer links here in this thread. Not worth messing with a rebuild.

questions for those who have done this:

1 - is there consensus on pulling the whole dash vs. just the cluster?

2 - all this talk about MC replacement but nothing about brake booster replacement. If the MC is leaking internally past the seal and filling the booster with fluid, will the booster be damaged and need replacement too? How do you get the fluid out of the booster?

I’m attempting this job today. Of course I’m already stuck at the throttle knob. Can anyone tell me how to remove it without breaking it?

Theres an allen set screw on the top behind the knob. For whatever reason mine was sae not metric. 1/16”.
press the gas pedal down, this will release all tension on the knob and make it easy to access the set screw

I totally missed that! Thank you! I'm stuck in the van since it is raining a little bit so it's hard to maneuver.

If you need a hand let me know. Im just running errands all around the city today. And this should be your rain day setup. Don't forget the work light and space heater inside the van. ;)

I would love a hand but I don't think I'll get to the actual master cylinder until tomorrow. I'm still waiting for a few tools to show up from Amazon.
I think I have the dash almost ready to come off. I'm working on the switches and then I'll see if my metric allen wrenches work. If not I'll go bug the neighbor for some. BTW is this van you?

Yah. Thats a me!
I’ve got tools let meknow if you need something. Tomorrow a group of us are pulling windows up in the north end. Pretty much half the crew that was on the chelan romp.

I'm waiting on a torque wrench and flair nut crows foot. I didn't buy the flair nut wrench but I am kind of regretting that now.
