L400 Gutter Trim vs Roof Rack Towers

I'm currently stationed in Japan and bought a 1997 L400 Exceed Twin Sun Roof (low roof/aero roof) about 6 months ago and want to install cross bars and a roof rack. I already tracked down a Terzo ladder but I couldn't find a definitive answer on the best towers/rack for a low roof so I went to the local car parts store (Yellow Hat). I ended up with an Inno gutter mount option that is awesome (~$150 with crossbars). The problem I have is that I can't permanently install it without removing or cutting the gutter trim. Does anyone know of a roof rack option that won't impact the trim or should I just pull the trigger and start cutting? Thanks for the help!

Start cutting :-(

I am going to try and clasp my gutter mounts with the plastic in place. I went with the Thule 300 gutter mounts. If the plastic is in the way of mounting them properly, it won't be for long!

I'm not too far gone and can return them if need be. I'm interested to see the 300s in action as it has the same clearance specs that my Innos have which is what attracted me to them in the first place. The 300s seem harder to find though.

Did you get the 300’s? Are the the correct height? Did you end up having to cut the trim?

Hi Guys, I am looking for the same roof racks. is very hard to find a gutter mounts for the L400 low roof here in Perth. Do you have any news with the Thule 300? Thanks Claudio

I vouch! Usdm market for low roof Thule is 300 (5”) and will need to add standard crossbars. There is also 8” and 11” out there in euro market for high roof.

I bought mine with the plastic missing where can a guy get a used replacement. I think there was a roof rack on before i bought it that destroyed the trim piece

We are working an a new modular rack system, cross bars, grid or grid with decking and will do our best to keep that trim in place but cutting it may be the most robust option. 11.png
The mount vertical slots are for awnings etc. The oval can be used for tie downs.

We are seeing a similar challenge adapting side ladders to L400 since you need a thin blade to drop in the gap between plastic and the roof then that trim is part of your pull outward structural support , (for our side ladders anyway) . Take that trim off and it may look less like moms mini van  ?
