Got me wondering, how hard could it be...

Ignore the bore/stroke discrepancy, that's a typo. They're the same engine with different inlet manifold and (maybe?) slightly larger turbo, but the
significant difference is that the D4BH has an electronically-controlled injection pump (Bosch VE-EDC). It's still mechanical injection (not common-rail) but where the D4BF/4D56 has an accelerator cable the D4BH has a big electrical plug. It needs an ECU to run it, which you might get from a late 90s model L200/triton, or maybe a Pajero (but don't quote me on those).

I'm not hugely familiar with the electronically-controlled 4D56 engines, but I've heard that the injection pump isn't all *that* hard to control if you're handy with coding microcontrollers:

Making Diesel Controller - rusefi.com
http://dmn.kuulalaakeri.org/dmn-edc/

ECU controlled injection is how the D4BH makes more power then the D4BF/4D56. The ECU can adjust injection timing to make power when the engine's running normally, and retard the timing to protect the engine when it's running hotter than usual. It can inject more fuel when the engine's cool, and reduce the fuelling as EGTs rise. The mechanical D4BF/4D56 has to be tuned conservatively for safety all the time, even when it's cold.

Update:
First 2 preorders are in!

Anyone who has questions can also PM me directly. We learned a lot in the first group order, and now we know more about crating than we could have ever dreamed of.

Update: Factory was closed, didn’t actually ship. We were told a new ETA for end of August shipping

Sorry i have a few quick questions, which engine is "better"? which engine is more reliable, which one has more power, is there anything special you need to do to install or are they pretty plug and play? Thank you in advance sorry for all the questions.

Well, here's the engines as I understand them....

4Dbf with intercooler will fit on L300?

It's a well-documented "easy" drop-in replacement for the 4D56 engine.
If I was to do this down the road, I would want an inter cooler on the 4dbf or the 4dbh. Has anyone did the swap with the 4dBH according to the link it is the most powerful of all the engine. I would go with the 4DBH intercooled if the swap has been done. My rig is a JB500 camper I can use some of that power. thx

We received the final shipping documents from Korea today. We'll update everyone when they arrive Portside US

Update:
We received another delay notification from the freight company.

Due to Covid related port congestion new ship date is 11 October.

We’ll update you when they’re US side.

there has been substantial interest in engines but no one has put down a deposit on the last one. So preorders are still available.
