What Did You Do for Your Van Today?

How many do you need Nick? I’ve got a few spares.

I've got 15of the sliders (plastic that goes in the track). Ordered accidentally from Coombs a little while ago as I needed the actually grabby bit and they weren't worth returning. If @NickS needs more than what you've got I can help out as well.

Yeah. Whoops, yeah the plastic slider things that go in the curtain track. I need quite a few. I think i only have 10. So pretty much every curtain rail needs em.

Technically it was yesterday, but I took apart a bunch of stuff on the turbo side to discover that the slipping belt sound I'd been hearing was the AC compressor. Problem fixed for the time being and the upside is that the AC is blowing cool once more.

Just picked up this Cradlepoint IBR1100 router for the bus. Programming it tonight and installing tomorrow. This router is badass! Way over kill, but too good of a deal to pass up.

I’m jealous. Overkill is good. For the less technically savvy, would a portable hotspot suffice for van road trips? I’ve seen a setup like yours in a shuttle I took from Denver up to Breckenridge last month. What is the advantage of the Cradlepoint?

The only other router I looked at was a Netgear Nighthawk from BestBuy. It was locked for att. AT&T wouldn't unlock it for 14 days, and we needed it for the road trip we're currently on. A friend set me up with a sales rep. from CP and I got the router, 5/2.4GHz antenna, and the LTE antenna's for just a bit more than the Netgear.

We put a T-Moble unlimited data SIM card in slot 1(pulled from iPad) for cheap internet and Verizon prepaid data in slot 2 (pulled from Jetpack)for coverage. When we lost the T-Mobile signal, the router is programed to fall over to SIM 2 or Verizon. All ports are able to be LAN or WAN. You can look for open WIFI connections and rebroadcast or plug into LAN. We've been on the road for 2 days now and have used all the above for internet. If I knew what this was and what it is capable of, I would have paid triple. Customer support is amazing, and it just works. Boise PD has these in every patrol car. I'll keep you posted if we have any issues. So far, I'm excited about this unit.

Called and made appointment with Apex in Burian. Two outstanding issues which are beyond my ability to fix.

The big one, I'm apparently losing compression on "cold" starts. Let the block cool down and it turns over hard often with a couple puffs of gray smoke. Likely it's a leaky seal (guessing near the back of the block where icant easily see).

Second one is a belt or bearing squeak. It's intermittent and I think it's the compressor, but I've been unable to locate it let alone eliminate it.

Better to admit that you have neither the tools or experience to get the job done. Maybe I can watch.

Eizo is the man. I've never dealt with a more honest, thorough mechanic. Good luck. Let us know what the source of the sound ends up being - and do you have a recording of it?

I should check my dash cam footage for it. Sometimes it's loud enough to set off a recording.

Over the weekend I blanked the EGR and removed the turbo. New OEM turbo going in this week, as I have time to work on it. Didn't take any photos along the way, but would be happy to answer any messages if someone in the future is looking to replace their turbo in the future!

Turbo ~$600. They're pretty common and easy to pick up. Got mine from Rising Sun. I got the EGR kit from them too for like $15.
